Bought 200 shares in Intel (INTC) today...

They are moving out of China...Building a 20 billion dollar plant in Ohio (near Columbus). It will take years and a lot of $$ to establish there. Their earnings came out...Some parts good, some bad (margins). I think they will hold their dividend.

Bought the 200 shares for $47.99. I then did a covered call for the Jan 23 $55. I got $3.45 for the options. The company also has a 2.73% dividend. Something to hold onto for the VERY long term. They are also committing $100,000,000. to Ohio universities and community colleges for tech education.

No quick bucks here...In it for the long haul. Cabin

Redsun, that was a confusing comment.

So...buying 200 shares of Intel @48 bux is $9600 invested, but may not be considered long-haul.

Is buying 1 share of BRK.A considered short-haul or long-haul?

It is just not convincing to make a statement with 200 shares as commitment. That is what I meant.

Yes, 200,000 or 2MM shares will be convincing for making a long haul.

Also, I do not see a $20k commitment is a long haul. It is a tiny drop in the ocean.

Also, what a difference long haul or short haul makes as a trader? What exactly is a long haul?

For some, $20K is their net worth.
 
This is what I can tell. I had a trade of 5,000 shares on market order. It came back as 50 small trades. That order was a disaster. I have to import those 50 trades and the dumb software won't clear it automatically. I figure there are so many small traders who make tiny trades. This would not have happened if we had $5 commission.

For some people, maybe 10 share also a long haul. Who knows.

Guy posts about his trade and most of the discussion following is regarding the trade size. WTF

Anyway, about that trade, the part that matters...I think it's a good trade. $55 might be a little too close on the CC. You're basically betting that China won't do anything with Taiwan until expiration because if they do, then I think Intel goes far past $55 or $59 considering the premium. TSMC and Intel are the world's only leading-edge high volume producer of semiconductors.
