Biggest Winners and Losers from Alabama Senate Race

I know this thread is going to get all messed up but I’m interested in who you guys think come out of this election up and down.

My take:

Winners:

Tom Perez
Mitch McConnell

Losers:

Steve Bannon
Donald Trump (although not his fault)

Winners:
Republican establishment.
Leftist media swaying an election based on allegations only
Senator elect Jones

Losers:
Moore, obviously.
The American voter, but we're used to having poor choices among our political scum. Business as usual. In this case the people of Alabama have spoken and that's that.

Steve Bannon
Donald Trump (although not his fault)

Bannon came out a loser but in some ways that was not really his fault either. He played an ideological strategy but it got messed up with a sex scandal that took his victory away. Otherwise, he was good to go. But yeh, his brand is damaged, not as a breibart type, but as far as his plan to be more helpful by leaving the white house and by knowing what is best for Trump, even though Trump wanted Luther. That blew up.

To me, and this takes us back to our discussion from I think it was early yesterday, the winners are the dems and the blacks who needed to get their fingers out of their arses and just go out and vote instead of whining about how "this is after all Alabama and it is too heavy a lift and all that." Screw, all that. Go out and vote. As I said then, "sometimes you just have to go out on the hunt and kill something and bring it back home." (Hillary, I hope you are taking notes).

So good on them.

This is why I said Tom Perez is a winner. I was reading the DNC was on the ground focused on turning out voters who did not vote in the last election and putting up local billboards (not on highways but on convenience stores) with the date of the election. It seems like small things but that is a model to increase turnout that can be replicated.

An interesting number, Jones got 94% of the Clinton vote whereas Moore only got 50% of the Trump vote.

The only obvious winner was gutter politics.

Prediction: more of this crap to come, since voters apparently are too dumb to vote on anything but emotion.

This election is only to fill out the remaining two years of Sessions' term, so the significance is probably limited. Perhaps they can convince Sessions to go home and run for his old seat. Then it's win/win for Team Trump.

I would be careful with this because Jones is in the seat until 2020. I think it was Schumer who said for democrats to take the senate in 2018 they need Arizona, Nevada and a miracle. Well they got a miracle.

whereas Moore only got 50% of the Trump vote.

That is an area where the dems will try to read too much into it. This was a referendum on Moore, not Trump. Since the presidential election, Alabama voters move even further to the right by going with Moore rather than Luther, and then since then they many rejected moore due to their conservative values, not because they have become more lib.

The dems scored a victory, but dont kid yourself, it was due to Moore's problems and if the national election were held again tomorrow, Trump would win even bigger there. Luther Strange could have beaten Jones with very, very little difficulty. And Jones did not really get the "Clinton vote" he got the got the dem vote and Clinton was dem too.

Even Shelby, the other republican Senator, said he would not vote for Moore. The dems caught a highly unusual break and used it well. Don't get giddy just yet. Alabama is going to be looking for the first chance it gets to put a republican in there again and the voter base is a sea of red. Dems should be out there working every day though to improve the lives of blacks and other constituents rather than just taking them down off the shelf at election time. Try that for a while and if you make progress, well good then. Try earning it the old fashioned way like that.
