So far they are whining that people should pay back their loans -- while being mocked for not paying back their very own much larger loans. It's not a good look.

They would be much better off focusing on the following type of message --

Debt such as student loans and credit cards is like an infectious disease (it spreads easily) in North America.

Too many people depend on it for a college education because schools cost too much money and depend on it for living/business expenses.

It's a crazy revolving door that will become even more painful for most if/when we enter a recession.

It's been the only way to keep the economy going, though, since inequality (think too much money on the cash register side of the counter) got so bad. Yes, the next recession could make it bad for borrowers, of course it could make it bad for moneylenders, too. Unless government, which has become little more than the armed agents of our shareholding class, makes the taxpayer bail out that latter.
