Some of these things run in cycles as far as how they play out.
I have said a couple times before that occasionally I think the parliamentary system has its advantages whereby the majority party has strength but they still usually must cobble together support from minority parties to get a majority. So voting for a minority party does not automatically mean that you are handing a victory to the other party because the minority party can still collaborate to forma a coalition with other parties which often allows them to punch above their weight.
As I said though, how these systems play out runs in cycles. I would not wish the way the British parliamentary system has played out the last couple years on to anyone. Totally dysfunctional, parliamentary gymnastics and games from morning to night, governments rising and falling, Brexit up, Brexit down, etc. etc. More gridlock than even the Americans have in an ultra-divided time.
