Better off as a plumber?

Do you honestly believe it takes no education or experience to become a plumber? Try looking up the licensing requirements in your state and see what it really takes. I think you will find that its harder to become a plumber in most states than it is to become a nurse. Most certainly there are no people on this board who could get past the minimum requirements to become a plumber.

It takes more work to become a licensed plumber than it takes to get a Bachelors degree. If you started at age 18 ideally you will become a licensed Master Plumber probably at some point in your late 20s...

Sure, you can try to plumb it yourself just like you can try to change a car engine in your garage. There is a trick to every trade and there is a reason why most states require several years of experience to get that license.

Try selling your house after you disclose to the perspective buyers that you did all the plumbing yourself...

Well, lets be honest, plumbing is not rocket science. You just need to have an engineering mindset and be coordinated enough to use the tools. Small jobs do not require any experience at all and yet a plumber will take an arm and a leg.

PS. In Manhattan, plumbers and electricians are indeed a cartel and prices are nicely coordinated. God forbid you try to bring in a guy from the Bronx (with a license, but unfamiliar to your super), you will never hear the end of it.

All you need now is to buy your own electrical company, and a building company. Then you would be all set.

BTW, who cares about what other people think. 100% of them are sheep's anyways. If you tell them you are a trader, they would ask all kinds of nonsense. If you tell them you are a plumber, they "want" to ask you all kinds of nonsense but think they themselves are too high and mighty so they don't ask. Isn't that a better lifestyle? Not talking about business during non-business hours?
