Best low risk investments, Oct 2022

A diversified (as to location) portfolio of super-prime residential rental real estate is your best bet, especially if you can manage yourself. It's like a Treasury .......which requires a bit of work but also appreciates slightly in value.
%%
Most landlords do their own Treasury work, even though quite a few companies will do the work for a %.
But it takes a certain kind of personality to be a landlord or small business owner/manager. Dave Ramsey majors in both.
FDIC insurance is real practical idea.
Good thing for me, even as kid, i much preferred to work a small business.
RE title insurance is a good low risk ,with good risk reward+ bought it on my home real estate.
Both of the Realtors i did business with for 20+/ years never bought title insurance+ did a lot of owner agent sales;
+ that worked out well. But with 20/20 hindsight, really i was risking too much by not buying title insurance on RE for resale:caution::caution:

From what I've heard, traders don't stop trading until they lose everything much like those visiting Vegas. Gambling mentality.
Hello schizo,

I rather lose $50K trading then lose it trying to start a business and failing.

Hello TimtheEnchanter,

Please tell me what legal business to start that is better than having a 40 hour a week job that pays +$100K per year, great health insurance, and 401K retirement plan?

Make sure the legal business can make $100K by end of year 2023 please.

Please do not reply unless you have this answer to avoid endless unproductive conversation

If you do not know the exact legal business, just say that.

Thank you,
Pawnshop...just one from many...

You are missing a crucial point. Your +100K great health insurance with 401K is a myth! If you are over 40 years old you can dream, so dream on...buy my book or drop the subject...OBTW if you ever watch shark tank, it can give you some hits too. It is free on the Tele...

Nothing in 14 months. but in 3-5 years you can be earning far more than 100k (like 1MM/year). You get all sorts of leverage at very cheap prices (especially if your hurdle is only 100k).

With 2023 equities outlook being bleak, what are your best fixed income / low risk ideas for the upcoming few years?

Searching for low/no risk greater than 4% isn't easy, depending on what counts as "low risk" of course!

Knowing where you live, I know you can beat that with virtually zero risk with net metering. I know a farmer ~350 km away from you who installed a $50,000 solar array that saves him ~$3,500 per year in electricity costs: that's ~7%/year and he's had a very steady return each year for about five years so far. Plus, you don't pay tax on saved costs (whereas you would pay tax on 7% earned from a GIC/CD, for example) so the effective rate is higher.

The catch is you need an appropriate property and the maximum you can earn is equivalent to your electricity savings; if these are already low, then you can't earn/save much. Even for the farmer (who uses quite a bit of electricity to pump water from the river to water his fields) he can't scale beyond $50,000.

The other drawback is that you're basically committing that capital to low risk, low return for the life of the solar array and after 25-30 years (??) the panels may be garbage so you lose the initial 'investment.' You'd have to do a net present value calculation I guess.

A little outside the box, but worth sharing, I think.

a] LOOKS fine;
but only if one has HI power bills like that. A wood stove is a good deal if one has plenty of wood on his property+ wants to mess with it.
b] Actually a great 5% deal is a company match 5%on ROTH type accounts ; but i would much rather own the company or most any co myself/LOL but to each his own:caution::caution:
c]Lotto is stupid tax on people that cant do math:D:D

I predict nobody will get it, and it will hit 900 million for next drawing.
%%
YOUR forecast was right on.
I checked the win loss odds on that\
1 in 292. 2 million\LOL:D:D. Lotto is stupid tax on people that cant do math.
80% failure rate of small business really does not mean much @ all/ if one really wants a business. Or worked for a while for some else/LOL:caution::caution:
SBA says 95% fail/LOL?? Good thing i never paid much attention to SBA.
Of course they may mean if you borrowed from SBA\ +they have a rep of low lending standards, buyer beware.
Kindness is an excellent low risk investment:caution::caution:

LOL\that's a scream+ a strange view of '' fixed income'', Vegas edge[gambling mentality]
Most likely why they changed it to ''gaming'' from gambling.
But like they say, '' there is thin blue line between you and danger'' the timely news article said.
I thougth they were noting a 50day moving average / mine = blue + going up/low risk or lower risk.
Actually as i read the news article further, they were talking about the blue coated LaS VEGAS POLICE dept/LOL:caution::caution::caution::caution::caution::caution:,:D:D:D
