Best low risk investments, Oct 2022

Hello MKTrader,

Thanks for the response sir.

Yes, I understand. I will stick with my full time job/career and max out 401K to government limits in SP500 index. I do not want to risk money on business starting and for sure lose. I will never quit my full time job.

Starting business is too much work and most fail and will fail.

Trading ES futures market is the best feeling and job on this planet as well on the side. It is truly a blessing to trade it daily.
If you do your work and due diligence, you'll have a much better chance of a profitable side hustle than profitable ES trading. You're largely competing against average Joes in the former, and against super fast algos and prop firms in the latter. But to each their own. You're welcome for the free advice, even if you'd rather listen to both "financial experts" and dream sellers (a really bad combo).

Hello MKTrader,

Please tell me a what "profitable side hustle" to start researching and invest in?

Thank you,

Those who are proponent of getting a job, IMHO having a business if far more lucrative proposition, albeit not nearly as sure. Still, lot of ethnicities rather work for themselves than make money for someone else.
P.S. I consider contract IT work non employment but self-employment and 100-percent risk free!

A low risk investment is a CD.
Otherwise, "low risk" is usually a euphemism for low return with hidden or unaccounted for risk and a bad bet in general.

I think the best risk reward bets right now are trading strong USD for beat up emerging market equity.

Of course, if you have a product or service to sell it makes sense to start a business. It makes absolutely no sense though to think about starting a business and then finding the product. Most people have no business going into business because most have no product or service to sell.

Strongly disagree, same kind of products and services have been sold for generations, people retire, get wealthy enough and lazy or fail for a reason or another then leave opportunity for more motivated harder working beginners to take some of their space than grow it.
Met a lot of youngsters, especially when I started, who were not even able to put the work when they started, or were dreaming of starting a business. Need some luck and balls and probably some understanding of numbers on top of being willing to work hard for a while but it´s not rocket science to get a moderately successful business going, a lot can be learned on the way as well.

Hello TimtheEnchanter,

Please tell me what business to start that is better than having a 40 hour a week job that pays +$100K per year, great health insurance, and 401K retirement plan?

Hello nrstrader,

EXACTLY, All these people talking about starting a business being naïve like start and running a business is the path to fortunes.

Noone on this forum can tell me a business to start that make more than $100,000 per year the first year of business. NOONE. not one person. I know only one, but because of ethical reason I will not state.

However, people just blurt out "start your business", like it is easy as going get a cup a water.

Everyone, I know started a legal business lost money and suffer with regret.

Why in the world would I want to start a business when 95% of business fail?

Trading is the best business in the universe.

With 2023 equities outlook being bleak, what are your best fixed income / low risk ideas for the upcoming few years?
....
IMO, for <10k US i-bonds are no brainer @ 9.62% ATM.

Hello @ValeryN - this deal seems too good to be true. The only danger would be the borrower going belly-up, but I can't see that happening in either of our life times.

The Australian Government needs to come up with something similar. If they did, then they would have a largish portion of my savings.

With the very small range of bonds in Australia for retail investors, I've started buying Australian banks into this rising interest rate environment. Not as secure as government bonds, but increasing margins and high fully franked dividends will keep me happy for many years to come.
