Best book on Lifting

Quote from nitro:

Another strong workout today. While it is now a walk in the park for me to burn 425 calories in one hour on the treadmill running/walking, I was reduced to walking though today - I think I pulled a groin muscle. Ugh. I was careful warming up and everything. I did the workout anyway, tenderly walking. It is so easy to give yourself an excuse to stop. I think unless you are doubled over in pain, work through it and accustom your body to having to deal with pain and stress. As soon as this groin thing goes away, I am going to take my treadmill to the next level - do in one hour what I did in two just three weeks ago.

The lifting also went well. Funny, the smoking hot woman was there again running like crazy, making everyone else look like they are standing still. She then goes and does 50 perfect military style pushups and doesn't even breath. The woman is an alien I tell you. The head trainer strained a neck muscle, I think from looking at her ass while trying to do heavy lifting, and I think I pulled a groin muscle just thinking about her ass.

Still at 182, but I would not be surprised if I gained some weight now that I am lifting again.

Run of the mill workout. One hour on treadmill, 450 calories burned. No lifting as per schedule of leaving one day in between lifting.

My pecs are sore as hell. It is interesting to see what part of your body most responds to lifting - it probably means this is the area of most neglect over the years.

While it is ok to work through some injuries, it's my experience that trying to work through a leg injury that forces you to change your gait, more often than not, leads to other lower body injuries. This seems to be especially true the older you get. This can set you back even further in your goals. It's better to suck it up for a few days and jump on the bike like the other women at the gym. There's a reason why sports pro's sit on the sidelines on a bike when they are injured. A groin injury can be the worst kind for making your lower body joints and muscles do things they're not used to doing.
I agree and I was aware of this problem, but it only really hurt if I started running. At fast walking speeds, it was only uncomfortable to mild pain.

If you have not already done so, you should consider doing it on an incline. More calories burned, easier on the joints. I burn about as many calories in 30 minutes walking fast on maximum incline (15 degrees). Give it a try and tell me what you think.

As an aside, what is your average heart rate during cardio?

Another decent workout, this time without the groin pain. I did my usual routine on the treadmill, where I routinely change the incline, run, walk, fast walk, sprint, etc. After all is said and done, an hours worth of effort burned about 425 calories today.

The lifting was less intense. I used less weight, but did more exercises to see how that would go. I don't even feel sore today so I think this lifting style is probably wrong [for me]. I almost always feel sore after a workout, so we will see how I feel tonight/tomorrow.

While it is really easy to lose weight, I am beginning to realize just how hard it is to sculpt a body with muscle. Truly hard. That is fine, I like a challenge.

Yep, yep, every since you recommended that I use the incline it has become my favorite tool. My experience is exactly as you describe, burns tons of calories without the pounding. Even the running seems easier on the joints...

Well, this is difficult to answer, since I don't pay attention to the average (I haven't noticed if the machine does it for you). During mild running, it is like 130. During the walking, it is like 70. During extreme sprints where I go almost all out, I have gotten it 175-180.

Uninspired workout. I didn't feel like working out today, I don't know why (well maybe I do). My mind was trying any excuse to convince me to take it easy. Too hungry, fine, get a powerbar, too tired, fine we start slow, cable not working in gym, tough shit.

Anyway, my legs were heavy from the start, but I refused to give in to a lite workout. My goal is never to have a sub 400 calorie burn treadmill workout at this point. That would be awful. Thankfully, I have a routine that I have down pat, and I just followed it. At about minute 22 into the hour, I got my legs back, and I was able to have a relatively decent workout. In fact, if I didn't feel so down, I would have probably broke my own hour-treadmill record. I did cramp, but I worked through it.

No lifting on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Still at 182, but I feel like I have lost weight because I also feel thicker from the lifting. While the weight is no longer what drives me, I still like to know what it is, just because.

That guy probably looks good/fit for a living. I would have to work too hard to look like that. As I said, the way that Christian Bale looks in BBs is ok for me, since that just looks like a guy that is fit and isn't posing with his shirt off.

People with ripped abdomens probably spend too much time in the gym, imo.
