Bernie Sanders Speaks Out Against 'Super Delegate' System that Made Clinton in 2016

Bernie knows full well the superdelegate system functioned exactly as it was intended to function. Party insiders blocked the outsider candidate and swung the primaries to the establishment candidate. That's the precise reason it was adopted, after the McGovern and Carter disasters. The party of the little people, the disenfranchised and discriminated against, that party doesn't trust those voters to actually pick candidates. They will handle that detail for you and tell you who to vote for.

Actually, most of time, I think the superdelegate system has a role. It can act as a counterweight to demagogic appeal, something the party has a real problem with. Sometimes it can get misused as way to block reformers and insulate insiders.

There is a rich irony though that the party that paints itself as populist doesn't trust its members to pick their public servants. You could see how your average NPR listener would be chapped by that.

Taking AAA thoughts out to the extreme (pun intended). When a party cobbles together groups and some of those groups are fringe nut jobs... it has to make sure those nut jobs don't win. (yeah I know republicans... but our fringe is much smaller.

The issue is what is a nut job for the party insiders and internet todays? In today's democrat party John F. Kennedy would be an extremist nut job.

It is not just academic issue. It is going to be a very big issue - and with all the Bernie supporters having a visceral memory of how it went last time.

In the short run the DNC wins. They just continue to tell Bernie to deal with or they will make some minor adjustments.

In the long run though, Bernie is holding the cards here. All of the energized democrats are over in the Bernie wing- not the DNC Dud wing. He knows it. The "progressives" know it, and the DNC knows it. If he does not get the dem nomination because the system is "wigged" as he says then this is his last hurrah and he is not going down easily. He is basically asking the dem party to tell him upfront if it is still going to do this superdelegate scam or not, because he and his supporters want to know so that he can go third party if so.

And yes, I see y'all out there shakin your heads and saying that he would never do that because it would just divide the dem vote and ensure the election of the republican. Dream on. This is Bernie's last hurrah and he is not worrying about that. He took one for the team last time and stood down and supported Hillary even though the DNC had rigged the primary against him. He wont allow this time, and as I said above, all these blue wave types that the DNC is so proud of are actually Bernie or a non-DNC type supporters. And the dnc is already in a pickle because even if they can fend off Bernie it will be by putting up another candidate who is supported by the far left- thus setting them up for a beating by the republican candidates candidates who will continue to successfully allege that the dems have abandoned the working class middle.

The dems got problems- big ones - and showing voters how to hate Trump even more is not going to work.

And yes, in regard to yesterday's discussion, I agree that Trump will have a problem with his base if the wall is not built but I dont believe that it is an unmanageable problem as long as he does not give anything away while he is working on getting it included in an immigration bill. Its if/when he gives something away such daca, chain migration etc with no wall that he has problems.

Bernie Sanders is a loser in life. He claimed the system was rigged, then it became clear that Hillary and the DNC rigged the primary against him. Of course he just sat there and took it and fell right in line.

The guy is a fraud. Don't feel bad, this socialist can enjoy the summer in his vacation home.

BTW, how is the FBI investigation into his wife going. We hear very little about on it on the fake news channels.

No, by today's politics JFK would be a very conservative republican. He would be way too conservative for McCain, Graham, and the Bushes.

I sort of expected it to blow over a bit by now but I guess his wife is having a hard time making it go away. The Justice Department empaneled a grand jury back toward the beginning of the year and the FBI is still making the rounds.

This article is from just last month so -as I said- apparently still at it.

I hope Bernie doesnt go off the reservation and start calling it a political witch hunt.
