Beef Recall

Quote from Thunderdog:

Does that mean that PEs don't have a crowding out effect on actual estrogen at all? (Serious question.) Also, even if phytoestrogens do not have that effect, my understanding is that they are a very weak form of estrogen which may be a small price to pay for the apparently beneficial effect it has on DHT. No?

There is no competitive uptake or feedback mechanism. They're simply too structurally different. Do a google search on soy + gynecomastia and soy + testosterone. Good for hair, bad for sperm count, libido, LBM, etc.

Watch out Atty you're gonna confuse him with fancy words like "in vivo"...he'll probably just call you an idiot or something. :p

I suggest Dr. Weston Price's work for an idea or two for those vegans in the crowd.

The Paleo Diet by Dr. Loren Cordain is a good reference as well, someone mentioned that earlier.

Both books are written by actual doctors that spent years and years studying human history, culture and health as it relates to the food they eat or don't eat. Not some quack vegan who has an agenda trying to say freaking snap peas are gonna supply you with what you need to be a real man.

I've steered quite a few ETers to the Paleo Diet. Glad to hear you follow it. Lindeberg is a good resource as well.

How much per pound is wild caribou and bison these days?

LOL, seriously. You can't eat this way because supermarket beef is too fatty to qualify as a 'paleodiet'. You are just fooling yourself :D

This is called the 'Western Diet", in case you haven't heard... it's making people sick

some interesting follow-up on the recall

Why Recall Two-Year-Old Ground Beef?

Simple. Because it causes no financial impact whatsoever to the industry.

You can't record a loss if there is nothing to return.

Again, I love meat, but it needs to be regulated. The USDA is not what it used to be.

Atticus, I have no doubt that you know far more about health-related matters than I do. However, there is no denying the controversy surrounding soy. And so, I contacted Joe Schwarcz (PhD McGill 1973), Director of McGill University’s Office for Science and Society, which is dedicated to demystifying science for the public, the media and students. He e-mailed me an excerpt from his book, An Apple a Day, which touches on soy. He does not share your views on the negative effects of soy when it is incorporated into the diet as is any other food.

Because I found the excerpt to be quite interesting, I started a thread in Chit Chat on the subject. Please have a look, and provide your comments. I don't necessarily expect you to agree, but I would appreciate any additional commentary you may have.

I don't use soy because of the controversy over it's potential estrogenic effects. I also don't think the key to health lies in the emphasis of any ONE food. i'd consider eating a few grams per day but i ask myself why? how could soy benefit me more than my plant food diet that i eat now?

Eat a variety of PLANTS, Eat mostly plants LOTS plants in their natural form, very little animal if any, and little or no processed animal food products such as hotdogs, sausage etc.

Too much soy may change you from a rooster into a hen :D
