Beautiful Stranger’s Diet and Exercise Journal

Sorry to hear.

As we had discussed, I was pushing the high fat/protein low sugar (with some leafy greens in there as carbs).

I had begun this test around end of April this year. As a starting point, these were my blood test results taken Friday, May 15, and the results I just got back at end of October...

May Oct
Total Cholesterol: 198 183 (better)
Triglycerides: 106 93 (better)
HDL: 50 46 (worse)
LDL: 127 118 (better)
Glucose: 88 87 (better)

I'll skip the other measures as they aren't relevant for purposes of the discussion.

Additionally, I'll be taking blood results at the end of the year (my annual all-day executive physical where they poke and prod me is in four weeks) and post a follow up.

I am continuing this diet as early indications shows it is working. I am also running around a 5K every other day, and still taking martial arts classes twice a week, though I teach one half of one of those classes. The other portions are heavy work outs. Additionally, I do the so-called "prison" workout on the off days of running (push ups, sit ups, planking, squats, etc). Though I started this specific diet in May, I had been doing this workout plan for well over two years now.

Haven't updated this in a while. But I had some time and am going to do so now. I began my quest to a healthier diet based on high protein, low carb - paying particular attention to when I intake carbs and the insulin spike that is associated with them. Caught a lot of flak from Frederick Foresight and some others because I was "just doing atkins" (not at all true) or was "doomed to higher cholesterol" (lets see).

I began this diet in May of 2020. My weight today, 18 months later is 28 pounds lighter. The following is my blood work straight from the Quest site.

Total Cholesterol

Diet start point is the second data point at 198 or so. Most recent print is 163. I'd call that a resounding success.

Triglycerides

Yeah, I'm not sure how much better I can get this. 58 is the lowest print I've ever heard someone talking about. But apparently it can go lower:

LDL Cholesterol (bad)

So this one had the most dramatic improvement. And before you ask me what happened in July, I'm not quite sure. The only thing I am aware of is that I only fasted for 6 hours prior to my test. So I think that messed it up.

This is an interesting one. I haven't seen any notable improvement, and I'm not quite sure why.

But suffice to say, given weight loss and these numbers I don't see how anyone can claim that what I am doing isn't working.

Based on a conversation with Tsing Tao, I decided to get up off my ass and actively start working out and improving my diet by shunning “Convenience” foods.

I will start a initial phase tonight by fasting 24 hours and completing a fifteen mile hike to get my glycogen levels down. Thereafter, my diet will be vegan only, with proteins provided by nuts, beans, and spinach. No meat, eggs, or dairy allowed. My exercise will consist of a minimum 500 calories burned per day. While there will be no calorie restrictions to my diet, I will be limiting the amount of nuts and bean I may eat. Starches will be mostly avoided with an allowance of long grained rice to go with my beans for social considerations.

I will report my weight, mood, and energy levels weekly and also have ideas of getting blood tests done monthly for documentation.

The objective for this effort is to improve my appearance and energy levels and to prove a point to Tsing Tao that plant based carbohydrate diets are beneficial for weight loss.
So, did your body composition improve since you started the journal?

So, did your body composition improve since you started the journal?

I did no scientific measurement of my body, but I am far more lean in upper body and face. My waist went from a 38 to a 34, and my wife tells me she loves the veins in my arms and shoulders now. I still have a little extra in the belly - this seems the hardest to get rid of, and I'd like to lose another 5 pounds - which gets me to high school football weight.

While I’ve been eating well, although not perfectly, I have not been exercising enough due to lack of discipline and the type of loads I’ve hauling. Have not maintained a strict low simple carb or restricted calorie diet either. My body composition is the same.

Time to restart this journal. Now.

Blood sugar is in the 80s so not really any need for improvement as it is already in an excellent range and can fluctuate due to many factors. But if it is below 90, then the up and downs within that range are good enough to ignore.

IIRC, dest was the only one poo-poing your plan. (Some shit about how your triglycerides or LDL were so much higher than his, so what you were doing was a failure. I was incredulous.) And I recall defending you on this, saying "Whatever you are doing is working, so keep doing it". After all, a downtrend is a downtrend. I would definitely short your body weight on the BWIE. (Body Weight Index Exchange.)

So...Keep doing it!

I can't see what dest says, so I'll take your word for it. But I do recall Freddy making derogatory comments on the books, the author and the process. But again, to each their own - as you say.
