Sorry to hear.
As we had discussed, I was pushing the high fat/protein low sugar (with some leafy greens in there as carbs).
I had begun this test around end of April this year. As a starting point, these were my blood test results taken Friday, May 15, and the results I just got back at end of October...
May Oct
Total Cholesterol: 198 183 (better)
Triglycerides: 106 93 (better)
HDL: 50 46 (worse)
LDL: 127 118 (better)
Glucose: 88 87 (better)
I'll skip the other measures as they aren't relevant for purposes of the discussion.
Additionally, I'll be taking blood results at the end of the year (my annual all-day executive physical where they poke and prod me is in four weeks) and post a follow up.
I am continuing this diet as early indications shows it is working. I am also running around a 5K every other day, and still taking martial arts classes twice a week, though I teach one half of one of those classes. The other portions are heavy work outs. Additionally, I do the so-called "prison" workout on the off days of running (push ups, sit ups, planking, squats, etc). Though I started this specific diet in May, I had been doing this workout plan for well over two years now.
Haven't updated this in a while. But I had some time and am going to do so now. I began my quest to a healthier diet based on high protein, low carb - paying particular attention to when I intake carbs and the insulin spike that is associated with them. Caught a lot of flak from Frederick Foresight and some others because I was "just doing atkins" (not at all true) or was "doomed to higher cholesterol" (lets see).
I began this diet in May of 2020. My weight today, 18 months later is 28 pounds lighter. The following is my blood work straight from the Quest site.
Total Cholesterol
Diet start point is the second data point at 198 or so. Most recent print is 163. I'd call that a resounding success.
Triglycerides
Yeah, I'm not sure how much better I can get this. 58 is the lowest print I've ever heard someone talking about. But apparently it can go lower:
LDL Cholesterol (bad)
So this one had the most dramatic improvement. And before you ask me what happened in July, I'm not quite sure. The only thing I am aware of is that I only fasted for 6 hours prior to my test. So I think that messed it up.
HDL Cholesterol (Good)
Glucose
This is an interesting one. I haven't seen any notable improvement, and I'm not quite sure why.
But suffice to say, given weight loss and these numbers I don't see how anyone can claim that what I am doing isn't working.
