Sadly the reality is that the Republican field is even more shallow than the Democratic... and yes, I am unfortunately saying this as a registered Republican (sigh).

Obviously Hillary is the current 'leading' Democratic candidate. Warren, by comparison, is more of a wonkish intellectual. I may disagree with some of Warren's viewpoints, but it would unfair for me to tear her down on the basis of not being a thinker. She may step into the race and totally implode from a public relations point of view (time will tell), but will not come off as dumb during the process in my opinion.

Looking at the Republican 'bench' I am not impressed. I am afraid that the Democrats may win in 2016 simply because the Republicans field such a poor candidate that they are not electable by the middle 1/3 of independent voters.
