you create a set of rules and you follow them until you change them. the rule that if you are born on american soil you are american was for a different time. one can debate this rule but it is not unchangable as you imply. it is what is good for the US which should determine the rule. politicians should look out for the interests of the country not only their reelection
There is a legitimate debate about the proper interpretation of that provision. I believe it qualifies it by saying something about being subject to the jurisdiction of the uS. Obviously, it was meant to confer citizenship on children born to former slaves. The argument is that someone here illegally is not subject to the jurisdiction of the US and should not be able to confer birth citizenship on their offspring.
A constitutional amendment is not required to change this, only a Supreme Court decision. Personally, I think it is absurd that illegals can confer birth citizenship. It contradicts a basic legal principle that one cannot benefit from their own illegal conduct.
in most cases yes and in some cases there are other factors involved....it doesn't matter why they are where they are ..im just making a statement which i feel is right..if you are getting paid min wage its because you have no other option; DUH..FHL doesn't want to get that thru his feeble minded head...people keep posting your option is to go back to where u came from and thats just absurd..some risks their lives to get here;;; that should speak volumes about what they have in their country ( a worse option than min wage ) ..although it is an option, it is worse...im not saying they should complain either many are very happy to be getting what they get.. peace

Who will run our laundromats, or pick up our garbage on sunday?, or wash dishes in our favorite restaurant.
What would life be like if we never had the experience of getting into a cab where the driver wore a shirt unbuttoned to the waist, more gold chains than "Mr. T" and speedos instead of pants (and smelled like a dairy farmer)?
Who would drive our limos, unplug our plumbing, fix our roofs, wash our cars, drive our towtrucks, fix our flat tires. I'm kind of busy during the week producing movies and partying with Madonna.
And what about prostitutes and drug dealers? I will bet Margarine can tell us where to score some herb and meet some girls.
