Quote from Kleiner:

My biggest complaint is our catering to the language. When I go to another country I expect to have to have my face buried in a Foreign/English dictionary. I don't expect to go there and have them hire english teachers to teach my children and put up signs next to their own so I understand. Especially if I plan on staying and being a citizen.

Well said, I am considering moving to Easter Europe. I will have to learn one of many difficult languages and there will be no signs in English, none. And that's the way it should be.

I just am clueless as to why hospitals cannot simply be given more taxpayer funds. The average income there is twice what it is in some nations that have excellent health care systems.

It is hard to think of an answer for the problem... because if you prevent them from getting treatment, or else say 'treatment but have to leave the country', they most likely will just stay and get sicker (considering how many of them are willing to risk so much to get here). Then may need even more costly emergency treatment when on the verge of death. Plus the bad publicity - we already get a bad enough rep for our border policy.

Indeed the pros and cons aren't as simple as getting a few basic goods/services for lower prices. [/B]

Because it would become an even larger abyss. More folks would find there way here for care and Mexico would become even more of a mess.

These other countries with excellent health care don't have robust economies either. We spend on roads, and cities, schools in ways that they'd never imagine. Our city infrastructures get massive government allocations. We even have senators getting $250,000,000 bridge building funds so that fifty families can live on islands. Explain to that senator that his bridge needs to go so we can provide illegal immigrants health care and see how far you'd get.

Ted Kennedy give up a program for his districts for Mexican relief? Not in this lifetime. Every one of them (politicians) just want to add more programs and somehow the taxpayers get soaked and hosed.

The answer IS easy, it's implementing the solution that gets all the flack. The first nasty little fact must take hold though. We can't, and shouldn't, cover for every one else's bad behavior. :)
