BAN semi-automatic weapons

Quote from wjk:

I would suggest that if you're in your home some night and your door gets kicked down, you will realized that owning a gun has just made you safer. If 4 or 5 men kick down your door, you will realize that having an assault rifle has just made you safer.

My point is that guns have not created the problems in society.
The accessibility of guns to criminals is not the making of responsible gun owners. The V tech killer had mental issues, but was allowed to buy a gun. Why? There are laws to keep certain people from obtaining guns. Enforce those laws and you will be addressing some of those problems.

Are you actually sitting there in the living room on your recliner with a loaded gun on your lap? If four guys break your door in you have no time to go upstairs to unlock your gun cabinet do you?

you have no kids running around there do you

How much crime do you (and any so-called law abiding citizens) need to convict you that "banning" anything (murder, weapons, alcohol, narcotics, off-the books accounts, bribery etc.) never solves the intended problem.
Think about it. The problem is not individuals carrying guns. The problem is individuals USING guns against defensless and most often innocent individuals.
So, if an individual intends to eventually commit a murder, it surely would not be dismayed by a law prohibiting carrying guns.
All this talk about banning guns is just an attempt by people terrified by these sensless killing to "DO SOMETHING", and it is of course understandable. Which does not make it wise or even well thought of.

Which part of my comments regarding responsible ownership escaped you?

pass out more guns? we haven't passed out any guns... that's what the swiss do, not us.

you are missing the main point here, which is that switzerland demonstrates that it is possible to have ultra low gun crime without encroaching on peoples freedom to bear arms... since it is possible to have very low gun crimes without taking away freedom, that should be our goal...

didn't you say a few posts back..

Quote from Mom0/pH0x:

ive told your learning impaired ass at least two other times in this thread. one homogeneous gun policy for a country as large and diverse as the united states doesn't make sense.

different weapon policies should be implemented to suit the needs of each different state, county, or in some cases, city. manahattan's gun policy shouldn't be the same as rural wyoming. different societies within america should be free to determine their own firearm standards.

so which is it, locale to locale or country to country for our gun control?
