BAN semi-automatic weapons

Quote from killthesunshine:

I get the distict feeling that you are saying "Don't ban anything. If we can get our hands on every weapon that came down the pike we'd all be much safer"

Actually, if you could cure the ills of society, we would be much safer. I lived in Japan for a year and a half in the late 80's. I never even remotely felt the need to own a gun. People were respectful toward each other for the most part. I could walk down a street in Tokyo with no fear. Try that in any major urban area of our country.

Unfortunately, the left has tried to cure the ills of society for decades, often with help from the right. Look where it has taken us. It has left us with the need to be armed. And I’m not even referring to the original intent of the 2nd amendment.

Hey ...he said he didn't see the need for semi-auto rifles. I gave him two.

Personally, I was riding fences and carrying a mini-14 at 10 yrs old.

they pull their rod out and you pull your rod out...

and that's called "safe"?

"let's arm everyone then no one will dare pull out no rod."

Are you referring to the bad guys when you say "they"?

If so, there may be hope for you! :)

US has always been a violent country to a certain degree. The nation was formed by conflict. A civil war. Many smaller skirmishes. Formation of the West and past conflicts with neighbors to the South. Get over it. Now give me my FULL AUTO.

Quote from Mom0/pH0x:

if only we could achieve the ultra low homicide rate of switzerland....

And how do we do that?

pass out more guns?

Guns readily available NOW, so how come they aren't making us as safe as the Swiss?

Twice I've mentioned societal problems, and yet you don't address it. That's where you'll find your answer.

so, readily accessible guns have not made us safer? The proof of this is the US has guns the Swiss have guns but our crime remains much higher, by your own admission?

So, why should we make even more guns available if we really aren't safer? It's not working! You don't throw guns at a social problem do you as a solution?

The gun ban was removed in Washington DC last year and the murder rate fell 25%. This is the first significant decrease in murder rates in DC in almost 30 years.

I would suggest that if you're in your home some night and your door gets kicked down, you will realized that owning a gun has just made you safer. If 4 or 5 men kick down your door, you will realize that having an assault rifle has just made you safer.

My point is that guns have not created the problems in society.
The accessibility of guns to criminals is not the making of responsible gun owners. The V tech killer had mental issues, but was allowed to buy a gun. Why? There are laws to keep certain people from obtaining guns. Enforce those laws and you will be addressing some of those problems.
