BAN semi-automatic weapons

Quote from Mom0/pH0x:

just stating the facts... sorry if they don't conform to your views....

i love facts.. but do you think society needs access to even more advanced weapons technology and that in direct proportion society is safer?

Quote from Lucrum:

You obviously don't know jack shit about firearms or self defense.

your an idiot, and as such shouldn't be playing with firearms in first place

you don't make good decisions

The criminal element has long bypassed semi in favor of fully automatic weapons, in response our local Police have updated all cruisers with full auto capability to match the threat.

Once again the law abiding citizens are not the problem, neither are guns, the finger that pulls the trigger is responsible.

Criminals don't give a flying flip about the law, gun restrictions only handcuff their victims. There are enough gun laws already on the books, enforcement is what's needed, not more legislation.

And YOU still don't know jack shit about firearms or self defense.

So, we should make FULLY AUTO CAPABILITY even easier to obtain for the general populace (which includes CRIMINAL) by relaxing restrictions further? Is this your suggestion?

Who gets to determine what is a self-defense firearm? I think that a Steyr Aug is a very good firearm for home defense, especially for those in rural areas. Should I have to get the approval of Sarah Brady so that I can keep mine?

If a criminal decides to shoot some inncoent people with a HK-91 semi-auto rifle...is it correct that I now lose my 2nd amendment right to own one, even though I did not participate in the crime? My freedoms are now reduced because of the actions of a criminal?

Killthesunshine, how much of your freedoms are you willing to give up, because criminals abuse theirs? Are you willing to take the punishment for the misdeeds of others?

The vast majority of shootings in the US occur due to the criminal use of handguns. Shootings with semi-auto rifles are about 1 to 3% of gun deaths most years. Their use is sensational on TV news programs and shocks the public, but handguns are used far more often. This is why the gun control groups will not stop at banning what they call "assault rifles", even though they have taken an incremental approach to banning guns. Some of the gun control groups advocate a system of forcing gun owners to keep their "Sporting firearms" locked up at Gun clubs or public shooting ranges, so they could not use them for self-defense.

It seems that some people are arguing for the govt to use my tax dollars to take my freedom away from me while at the same time having no significant reduction on violent crime, and worse of all they want me to agree to this.

i never said ban all guns. I think that's a bad idea. i asked why we need SEMI-AUTO RIFLES? I do think we need progressively greater regulation and restriction OVER TIME to weed out those guns that serve no obvious purpose for DEFENSE. Agreed?

Semi-auto rifles are rarely used to commit crimes, but do make excellent self-defense weapons, as do shotguns. The bad guys are going to get their hands on whatever they want. Honest law-abiding citizens should be allowed to defend themselves with whatever type of firearms they feel are appropriate. Simply owning a gun, semi-automatic or not, should not make someone a criminal. Criminalizing ownership of guns because a very small percentage use them to commit crimes is like criminalizing car ownership because some people drive drunk. The government should focus on catching and punishing people who use guns to commit crimes, not law-abiding citizens who happen to own guns.

Quote from Mom0/pH0x:

you know what kills even more people than guns? cars!!! automobiles kill hundreds of times more than guns per year, if we just get rid of them we'd kill far fewer people...

very few deliberately kill with an automobile. are you seriously suggesting this is a legit argument for NO restriction for guns of any type or weapons?

How are you safer with a semi auto RIFLE than a handgun?
