BAN semi-automatic weapons

Quote from killthesunshine:

what you seem to not understand is they are not criminals TILL they get a gun. in effect your policy is giving a free pass to advanced weaponry for EVERYONE! :eek:

By your reasoning, acquiring a gun causes someone to become a criminal. If that's true, why is that people who own guns legally are LESS likely to commit crimes than the general population?

Criminals become criminals long before they acquire guns. A story in the LA Times last year said that in Los Angeles, the typical person arrested for a gun crime had five previous criminal arrests BEFORE they acquired a gun (illegally) and used it in a crime.

Your argument that acquiring a gun turns people into criminals is unadulterated nonsense and contrary to all known facts regarding guns, gun crime, and criminal behavior.

And you keep stepping in it.

But I digress.

What was your answer to this I missed it?

"On those extraordinarily rare occasions you do get a date (with a female) do you rummage through her bedroom looking for weapons while she's in the bathroom?"

Screw semi-automatic weapons, we should legalize fully automatic weapons. Do you love the country? Do you really believe in the 2nd amendment or just give lip service. If you don't agree with fully automatic weapons for the public you are a communist and a pussy.

I know you meant to be facetious but in principle I'm okay with full automatic weapons and anything else I'm willing to purchase.

but hey that's just me.

PS: I might not be too thrilled to find my neighbor has an unexploded WWI mustard gas artillery shell , but that's another issue.

I guess if my jokes only make me laugh I'll have to live with that. I thought it was funny. :)
Everybody is for arms control and restrictions, the only discussion is what degree we're talkig about.

Quote from Mom0/pH0x:

the fact of the matter is fairly self evident. no forward thinking, rational person would agree that one single homogeneous gun policy would be most ideal for all states, districts, and municipalities. hence each state, county, municipality etc should be able to make their own gun policy... just as they are able to shape each of their own policies for other issues. why should THIS issue be federalized? israel and switzerland prove that heavy gun regulation is not necessary to have exceptionally low gun crime, furthermore our constitution ensures our right to arms. so, since it IS part of our bill of rights, AND it is possible to achieve very low gun crime with widespread firearm ownership, maybe we should look to switzerland and israel for lessons on how to deal with this issue.

You still have not answered the very basic question of why you NEED a semi-auto rifle?

Quote from Lucrum:

Below is the legal definition of an assault rifle:

detachable magazine of more than 10 rds. , and two or more of the following:
* Folding or telescoping stock
* Primary pistol grip
* Forward grip
* Threaded barrel (for a Suppressor, commonly called a silencer)
* Barrel shroud

Maybe some of you anti gun types would like to enlighten us poor uneducated regular folks on the increased dangers of the above list of features to the general public.
