BAN semi-automatic weapons

Quote from tomdavis:

This is the image the media portrays and many would like to believe. I was a competitive shooter for many years and know hundreds of gun owners. They're not anything like the stereotypes promoted by the gun-hating media. If you really want to know what gun owners are like, go to a shooting range, or better yet, a competition. Talk to gun owners and you'll discover that they're doctors, lawyers, plumbers, business executives, secretaries, store clerks and people that you have contact with every day, but have no idea that they own guns.
If I knew they owned guns, especially concealable weaponry, I'd probably cease having anything to do with them. In my mid-20s, I knew a woman who once confided in me that she kept a pistol in her bedroom. Guess where I was never seen again.

Almost 30% of the adult population in this country owns at least one gun. Unless you're a hermit, you come into contact with them every day.

Judging by this thread, I get the feeling that a number of you deep thinkers probably polish your weapons while viscerally enjoying an actioner on TV, wondering how cool it would be if only someone tried to burglarize your home. (Yeah, baby!) And then there would be the headlines, the fame, possibly television interviews. A book, maybe. A TV movie of the week? That would give life some real meaning, eh? Then you'd really be a somebody.

Gun ownership: when vicarious thrills on TV are no longer enough. Go ahead, make it real.

You're right, I'm sick and tired of duck hunters joining the NRA. They should be banned, I hate duck hunters. A girl can shoot a bird, big deal. The 2nd amendment is for keeping the govament in line an if they're not then they gotta worry about the armed public, not duck hunters.

Possibly. However, I live in Canada. I'm hoping the percentages are somewhat lower here. Fortunately, the people I know and associate with are of the same mind on this issue.

Quote from Mom0/pH0x:

lol, were you violated with a gun by an abuser when you were young or something??
No. However, I'd like to avoid the possibility in the future. Thanks for asking.

In a woman's bedroom?

:D

Quote from Lucrum:

Violent career criminals. And they should be publicly executed en masse. I guess you could call that a permanent ban.

You mean firearms? I can see fully auto weapons being controlled/licensed but I see no reason to ban them.

Why the childish exaggerations? I don't know of any second amendment advocate/supporter suggesting SAM missiles.

These are not childish exaggerations but go right to the point that a decision must be made for accessibility of each and every weapon manufactured. Weigh the potential benefits of public ownership against the threat to public safety.

Why do YOU need the KILL-POWER of a semi-auto rifle? let's say I'm a lawmaker convince me or I will take it away from you!

Quote from tomdavis:

I own two of them. I also own nine semi-automatic handgans. All my guns are legal and registered as required. I was a competitive shooter for many years and for a while even made my own reload ammunition (with real gunpowder -- GASP!!!) to save money.

What I don't understand is why you would even care. Am I a threat to you? If so, I can't figure out why. I'm a law abiding citizen, help my neighbors when they need it, give generously to charity, help my kids do their homework, and never cheat on my taxes. I've spent my entire life being an honest citizen and following the rules. Why are you so bent out of shape over what kind of guns I own?

what about your neighbor can you vouch for him? Or the guy at end of the block or in next city?

Kill power? Are you from Cuba? You don't have real kill power until you can take out a tank, wouldn't you agree. You know what I think of duck hunters, patriots my a$$.
