Ayn Rand’s ‘Atlas Shrugged’ has been completely unraveled by the pandemic

You mean libertarians like John Locke, Patrick Henry, Paul Revere and many of the founding fathers who espoused principles of decentralized and smaller govt responsive to the local people enshrined in the US Constitution.

Or, do you just wish to pick a subset of kooks... paint them up as your strawmen and thereby return to the big powerful centralized govt solves all your problems concepts of Marx and Lenin. Or maybe King Henry.

People who don’t give much thought to big problems often identify as libertarian. These are the guys who have made extensive cases against stop signs, drivers licenses and the FDA - the FDA argument is a doozy, they claim after a certain number of people die from a product then the market will correct and people will stop using the product.

Ayn Randian stuff is just a scam to justify massive wealth inequality, and extreme economic & political power concentration in the hands of a tiny elite.

The fortune of someone like Bill Gates, Zuckerberg, or Jeff Bezos certainly owes something to raw individual vision and initiative. It also owes lots to being at the right place & time, the contributions of other people, the social, legal, and political structures and environment that allows such enterprises to succeed in the first place, first-mover advantage, network effects, natural monopolies, etc.

John Locke is considered the founder of liberalism. He made the argument for a social contract. You need to learn more about such things.
