Shooting someone is often when the officer is threatened in any way.

When an unarmed suspect is running away what should the rule be?

I do not think police should be given the freedom to shoot someone in the back running away of any color, why not pursue him or was it just easier/lazier to shoot first?

Shouldn't be shooting at someone fleeing who's original infraction was passing out in their car in the Wendy's drive-through.

Cops should not be shooting at anyone who is not presenting an immediate threat. I could never understand cops shooting at fleeing perps.

Don't the cops have ROE? In the military if you break ROE you are in serious trouble.

Police pretty consistently kill 1000 people annually in the US (0.01% of arrests, 0.002% of interactions). That includes all demographics. ~25% of those deaths are black men, yet that same group accounts for 53% of known murders and 60% of known robberies. There is definitely a discrepancy there, but it doesn't support the ‘systemic racism’ assertions.

I should say that grabbing a cop's taser will definitely get you shot if you brandish it but if you start running they will still shoot you? That is messed up.

The article leaves the rest of the details out because it might help make this obviously not a "hate crime" (whatever those are anymore).

Imagine a scenario where a person has stolen a taser, displayed violent tendencies, resisted arrest, and is now charging full bore towards a building with people in.

Do you let him go in a start tazing old ladies with pacemakers? He's clearly violent and on drugs so should he just be able to find the nearest group of people to beat half to death while you haul yourself and a 22 pound plate carrier after him?

Of course you say you would because you want to mold this to fit a narrative. The truth is often more complicated and I suspect there's a reason the guy was shot that had nothing to do with being black. If he was white it'd be "just another white trash hillbilly getting what he deserves". Wouldn't even make the news. Consider your biases carefully.

Lying by statistics. Low energy. Study cited doesn't even define "unarmed" nor does it control for crime. Getting shot unarmed in a traffic stop is far different than being shot unarmed during the commission of a robbery. In fact in many states stealing property falls under castle doctrine.

Friends in the medical field have told me stories of belligerent drunks in the detox tank smashing sinks with their heads and ripping out of 4 point harnesses.

Violent drunks are incredibly dangerous. Not quite PCP dangerous - but extremely dangerous none the less. Cops don't carry a B-52 bolus and a tranquilizer gun to stop them from acting out. Though we would certainly hear about "poisoning innocent fleeing criminals" if they did.

I did not see any pursuit or threat of him running into a building tasering everyone around. He started to run and they shot him in the back...

Seems like lazy police and typical resort to fire the weapon and murder for any offense.
