So all a criminal has to do is run and they must let him go? Besides, he violently resisted, took a weapon from the cop, ran and pointed it at the cop. That'll get you shot 10 out of 10 times and it should. Might be helpful if the cops shoot for the lower body in these cases, but we simply cannot allow criminals to go free just because they run.
Did this guy have warrants and priors or not? If he did then that explains why he ran. Easier solution, don't resist and don't run. Works most of the time. Didn't work for Floyd but we cannot pretend that all cases are in anyway similar to the Floyd killing which was obviously unjustified.
So if a criminal runs, who says let them go. Pursue them.

In this case, the cops already have the guy's full name, address, id, car, etc. --- they can easily track him down later.

I think it was not about the running as much as it was when the suspect turned and pointed a weapon at the police officer.
I don't understand the massive effort to push acceptance of violently resisting arrest. I just don't. There is nothing on that full video that shows where the police acted improperly. They were polite when they pulled him over, polite during the DUI testing, and then he began to get physical.

So let me ask is a Taser a deadly weapon or not a deadly weapon?
Police are only supposed to use their guns when encountering a situation where a suspect is using a deadly weapon on them or others. Otherwise they are violated policy. Ignoring the fact that the bullets were placed in the man's back -- which also violates policy.
Note that if you claim that a Taser is a deadly weapon then you will need to answer for all the police department and manufacturer claims over the past decade stating that it is not deadly weapon.
When someone mentally distressed runs from a very very minor matter, yes you let him run especially when you have his car. He will come back once he calms down.
Very simple. There are trials, incarceration costs, appeals for convicted murderers that last for years on the off chance exonerating evidence might arise.

I believe they were unsure as to whether this was a taser or whether it was a concealed gun. They only frisk for weapons after the suspect is cuffed and before putting into the car. They never got that far. They knew he had taken the taser (or should have) but that did not mean he didn't have other weapons.
