Aside from palestine can anyone think of a single thing muslims have invented?

There's this cool new search engine called Google, of all things. And if you enter "Islamic contributions" into the search box, you find this useful website called Wikipedia (isn't that cute) which starts with stuff like

From the 11th to 13th centuries, medieval Europe absorbed knowledge from Islamic civilization, which was then at its cultural peak. Of particular importance was the rediscovery of the ancient classic texts, most notably the work of the Greek natural philosopher Aristotle, through retranslations from Arabic. Also of note is the reception of advances in astronomy and mathematics made in the Islamic world during the 10th century, such as the development of the astrolabe.

Granted this breaks one's rhythm if he's ranting, but there you are.

The medieval period didn't exist. Just ask the global warming freaks.

Like every other society the radical elements have taken over the Muslim people. Been going on since the beginning of time. The power crazy take over, kill people by the hundreds of thousands or millions in the process, rule with such distain for human life that even most of the party loyalists finally fall away, the people rise against the now few in number fanatics in an epic battle...you know the rest. Rinse, wash, repeat. The only thing that changes is we get technologically better at killing each other. Socially, we're just barely out of the cave. The mindless primitive of the ID. It even brought down the Krell. Loved that movie.

Good post. Peoples, religions, civilizations have an interesting way of leapfrogging through history. No doubt there were some very self-satisfied Chinese, living during the Ming dynasty, within the "Celestial Empire", who thought they were the apex of mankind.

From the ChitChat forum, some more perspective-inducing Carl Sagan. 10 minutes of sense (with a touch of the debatable).

Yes, good post. And you're correct to use the term "leapfrogging" rather than "history repeating itself" since if history were only to repeat itself, the situation wouldn't be getting progressively worse. As it is, we come ever closer to the next stage. If we can't get through the barrier, we disappear. If we can, then perhaps life will be better for everyone.
