Here is the problem. From my sampling of media, I don't really see any recognition by democrats and the media that they have created this situation where a man thinks it is a good idea to gun down a group of republican congressmen. Indeed, their immediate reaction was to go to gun control. Their fallback position seemed to be that "both sides" need to tone down the rhetoric. Of course the real crazies blame it all on Trump and his "divisiveness", ie not agreeing with their radical concepts of open borders, etc.
So we have a situation where the left, through its control of media, academia, the judiciary and our larger cities have tacitly encouraged political violence. First, against conservative speakers on campus, then against Trump supporters at rallies, finally against "neo Nazis", which seems to include anyone to the right of Hillary. Of course, they are careful not to come right out and say "go commit violence", but they send the signals, they tell the police to back off unless their thugs are getting the worst of it and they don't prosecute those responsible.
The networks and entertainment barons have tolerated truly outrageous antics that need not be repeated. We all know Colbert would have been fired immediately if he had made cracks about Obama like he did about Trump, so they too are tacitly encouraging a poisonous environment.
TT is of course correct that an all-out civil war is not on this week's agenda, but I disagree that it is unthinkable, even in the relatively short term. We have a group of unstable leftwing losers who have been brainwashed to blame every disappointment in their lives on republicans and in particular Trump. We have a group of patriotic Americans who are sick of where their country is heading and appalled at the tactics used by the democrats and media. We have a weaponized media which somehow got their own special counsel appointed, who seems to see his mission as bringing down the hated Trump.
This is not a stable situation. If the establishment do make a move to get rid of Trump, one word from him and an awful lot of people are prepared to take matters into their own hands.
One word from Trump and I wouldn't do shit. And I voted for the guy. He's way too flawed a candidate to be anyone I would support with activism, let alone violence.
Now, if he did all the things he claimed he would do when I voted for him, I might reconsider my state of activism. But violence? Not until my life and family is directly threatened and only when that happens.
