Apple iPad

No -- they focus on serving people who see their computers as tools to get something useful done.

Hmmm, really. There isn't a part of this woman I don't want to put my hands all over.

They aren't selling computers. They are selling good quality digital picture frames that they called Mac.

you will see some very soon based on the Android system. My bet is that Apple will be forced to include flash support. Apple AGAIN made the same mistake than the one they made with their Macintosh systems years ago. Proprietary systems are hated and disliked by people.

Please do not get me wrong. Apple is a pioneer in the smart phone market, and what they have done on the iPhone is fantastic and inspiring (certainly inspiring for the Android engineers out there ;-)
but I still am willing to bet that Apple's strategy of forcing standards on people will AGAIN fail. Apple already is resting on its achievements or do you believe they can pump out another hit in 2-3 years time? I do not think so. By then the Android market will have fully caught up, if not surpassed it. Innovation can always thrive the most when its driven by many rather than just a few.

Didn't think I'd want one but my Mom sure did, so I grabbed one for her. Been playing with it for the past 3 days. In a word - wow. 'Slick' is the only word I can use to describe it. The interface is just so cool, and it's a very nice way to consume different types of media. The image quality is outstanding with the IPS screen. Battery life is amazing.

Wi-Fi connectivity is all right although with the 3G version, you have to put a SIM card in it to get it to work, and then it sometimes gets confused about whether you're asking it to use 3G or Wi-Fi.

I still hate the fact that I can't surf the web on it . Yes, yes, I know, this is a slight overstatement, but that's how I feel about it. There's plenty of streaming content that I want to see but can't access with this device. I'm waiting for a Linux (Meego?) based tablet, but something tells me it won't be as slick as this thing.

Anyone who argues that the iPad isn't a strong indicator of where personal computing is going hasn't played with one.

then you must be dreaming somewhere...Android Apps sales just surpassed iPhone sales. Mark my words, the iPhone is in decent whereas Android based systems just start to take off. Google's strategy of including people and applications and offering free stuff will ultimately kill Apple. You will see.

Apple really know about their niche market. They focus on and serve peoples who are "computer-illiterate" which are pretty much most people with the exception of business and computer peoples. They also brand themselves to be a cool company, which is an excellent marketing strategy that indirectly make the PC users "uncool".

Apple also applied some good management/HR techniques in managing their staffs, making them "want to work" instead of "have to work".

So far, I don't see any competitors for Apple in this niche market. Apple is the only one producing these entertainment devices, and I don't see any other company producing anything similar.

They both target different customer group. Android is too complicated for Mac users.

lol, how is that too complicated? HTC for instance provides a customized version of Android on its smart phones. Anything can be done and I dont see anything that makes Android less usable and userfriendly than the iPhone OS. I tried both and both spot minor pluses and minuses. Emailing on the iPhone is still very poor in terms of features (still no mass delete, grouping in Ver. 4.01 is very poorly implemented,....).

I think both OSes target the exact same user group. And Android will definitely come onto pads very soon, with smooth web browsing, flash, ...., all the features Apple refuses to implement (at least at the moment). Even hard core Apple fans have to admit that the current momentum is on the Android side of things...

Exactly.

And that's why so many people buy their computers.
finally, what is the Apple Ipad called? is it not a computer or tool?

A computer is anything whose primary purpose is to process [and display] general information (formal systems). So a stove with a chip in it is not a computer, nor is a car engine with a computer system supporting it, nor is a digital clock. But an iPad is a computer. That it is called an "iPad" is a marketing ploy.
