Anyone Try Hololens (or alternative VR/AR) HMD ?

I've read a lot of reviews but none that would go into enough details:

Could the Hololens be used as a monitor replacement for the purposes of running and interacting with a Trading Platform?

From what I've read it should be possible to Remote Desktop to a machine running the full trading platform.

I've also read that it renders at 720p and displays at 1080p (Unsure if this means the screen resolution would need to be adjusted to 720 or 1080 and the layout adjusted accordingly).


It would be great if this could be used as a multi-mon replacement (and even throw up CNBC/Bloomberg News on another 'virtual' screen).
 
That was a cool video and the technology is certainly impressive, but it doesn't really seem like it's solving any problem we all have. I don't need to look at Saturn in my kitchen or have 3-D sharks swimming in my office, or surf the internet wearing those goggles. I just don't get it.

But I agree, this kind of technology is kind of useless right now -- or still has alot to prove...before it settles to become mainstream.
As soon as you get done with that initial awe factor of a planet or fish hologram in your room...then what, so what...

For me the benefit today would be a replacement of multiple monitors. Rather than investing in 3 to 6 monitors, could have one laptop with one hololens. Then I could see multiple monitors and TVs at the same time.

Plus with portability, could move to another room and still keep a monitor or TV with me (i.e., monitor my watchlist while sitting in the lounge).

And of course, a Laptop + Hololens is easier to take on trips abroad, than a 6-monitor setup.
 
I think it has potential to be a game changer. It might potentially replace most needs for a desktop PCs. Think of ever more powerful mobile devices, yet the limitations are the screen. With augmented reality one can quickly pull up a spreadsheet on a bus/train on the way to work and do some productive work rather than having to fumble with fat thumbs on a miniature mobile device screen.

Of course there will still be plenty needs for desktop PCs and a proper keyboard and mouse/ physical display in order to stay productive.

That's already reality. VR goggles together with several specialized applications can already simulate unlimited number of screens. What are the limitations right now is not the software but higher resolution goggles in order to reduce/remove eye strain and it takes time to properly evaluate the long-term effects on eyes.

And this is exactly the point of the thread:

Is the HoloLens suitable enough to use for monitor replacement when it comes to the task of using a trading platform where text legibility and resolution are important.

So far, despite the cool video above, have yet to see anyone give a clear:

Yes, the resolution and legibility of text is sharp enough that you can stare at a watch list of 50+ symbols, or look at 10+ charts in real time and clearly see all the information just as if you were using a monitor.

Which makes me think it isn't quite there -- but would like an affirmative/negative one way or another.

(but if you so urgently need the affirmation or rejection by anonymous website visitors may i suggest that trading is not the right endeavor for you? Maybe something where there is a boss who breathes down your neck and tells you what to do and micromanage you seems a better fit perhaps?)

What I was hoping for was more along the lines of:

Hey, yes I have a Hololens and I use (insert trading platform here) and it works (greatly/badly). Here's a quick paragraph on my experience and a screenshot!

(I was hoping at least one person on this forum had tried it out :))
