Anyone buying Vista?

After 30 years of battling with computers of to many varieties than I care to remember, I have given all our PCs away to the compactor and replaced them with Macs - its just so relaxing now using a computer. Easy, secure (UNIX underneath), no viruses (4 for Macs, 80,000 and counting for PCs) and the elegance of Macs operating GUI is wonderful.

I've looked at Vista and its no big deal - another kludge on top of NT!! Try a Mac (especially spotlight) and you'll be converted.

Here's a nice little Vista gothca if you're burning backup data on dvds (from http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTMxOCw0LCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA==):

"DVD Burner: Burning a data DVD is as simple as drag-and-drop, but there's a catch. Putting in a blank CD pops up a dialog that asks you for a disc title. There's also a little arrow that says "show formatting options." Vista, by default, writes CDs and DVDs to a "live file" format which only works in Windows Vista and (Microsoft claims) Windows XP - not on Macs, Linux, or Windows 2000 and earlier PCs. There is another option, however, to master as a universal CD/DVD. I couldn’t figure out how to make it the default selection - it must be selected every time. Furthermore, if you just simply drag and drop the files to the DVD, it'll assume you want the "live file" format and start burning immediately. Of course, none of this mattered because neither setting resulted in a data DVD that could be accessed on a Windows XP MCE HTPC or a Windows XP SP2 box."

In general, Mac compatible software is only about 10% of Windows software.

Macs will have all the general use versions, like browsers and office suites, but other more specialized software less likely.

If you want to run Mac, best to verify your apps will run on it before buying.

yeah, read that article awhile back, Vista has caused me more problems than it has solved. Charting in slower and things freeze up like windows 98. They dont make a driver for my computer...it even says on HP's site...sit tight and we will fix the issue asap. I am a Mac guy but dont want to run parallels on a mac book quite yet, seems like that is sketchy, so stuck with windows. If my laptop i just got didnt have vista native, I would have stuck with XP until I had to switch.
