I have to admit that I was one of those guys really looking forward to Vista's release. I was enticed by the pretty bells and whistles. So I ordered a couple new laptops with Vista preinstalled so I could play around with it. I kept one and gave one to my mother.
The instant I started having outright compatibility issues with various drivers, I quickly formatted my new laptop and threw XP SP2 on it. I think Microsoft finally got it right with XP SP2. My thinking is that they should have released XP to the public about two years ago...which means that Vista should have been held for a 2009 release.
My mother is thrilled with Vista (when it's not malfunctioning), so I find myself serving as tech support for an OS I don't particularly like. It has very strange bugs in it that come and go. I can't stand the look and feel of Windows Explorer. I detest the Start menu (and switching to the "Classic" view makes it revert to a version from before XP, which seems odd). (Side note: I can't believe that those numskulls at Dell would send out computers with drivers that are imcompatible with the installed OS.)
I'll probably switch the several PCs I have at home and the office to Vista when SP1 comes out. And as more and more of my stuff is on servers (using Windows Server), I want to start playing around with Linux on local PCs, but I digress...
