Why would a truly anonymous IP service keep the logs? I think I read about some services that claim to erase or not keep the logs, but I don't know if I remember that correctly. Anyone shine some light on this? [/QUOTE
Ya, Connect to a VPN service overseas....VPNs that host in sweden are usually good. That is what all the big bit torrent guys use. The ones that use IPSec of L2TP have the best security. Also, most of them state they don't keep logs or records of their customers. anonine.com and ipredator.com are 2 off the top of my head.
Some even go as far as to only pay in cash. (Note, there is some people that believe the virus/malware/hackers use these cash type services so they may be shut down at some point by a govt agency, just opinion for the most part)
In case you dont know, basically, the traffic is encrypted to/from your computer and your ISP has no idea whats going on. You get an IP from somewhere in sweden so it looks like the computer is based in sweden. The only thing you have to worry about is the company overseas keeping logs or telling the truth (that they aren't keeping logs)
If you are ultra paranoid, add this to the Tor network and the I2P network and that is as anonymous as it gets. Note using either the Tor or I2P are drastically slower than just the VPN b/c you are connecting through peers.
You need a bit of computer savvy to add the TOR and even more for the I2P but its not rocket science. Plenty of howto's on google.
