another supplement bites the dust. fish oil pills are a waste of money:

Hmm. I'm 54, drink almost a liter of skim milk a day and have a negligible PSA reading. I recently asked my go-to reference source and he saw no issue as long as it was skim.

Good for you man.

If you eat bacon and then take a fish oil capsule, you still have the clog from the bacon.

But if you eat a diet of fish and no bacon, you are healthier.

It's not that fish oil is bad, it just does not reverse the bad things you do to yourself.

The composition of VLDL produced via the consumption of fructose (from any source) is the leading cause of arterial blockage. Bacon has very little to do with it.

There we go, straight from the top cardiologist on ET. This should settle this issue once and for all. Free Thinker did you read this its ok for you to eat bacon.

I was just joking, from what I've read I think frutose like Americans eat it is bad for you but I also think think too much saturated fat is bad. I used to love bacon but anymore it upsets my stomach, don't know if its the salt or I've reached my life time nitrate level.

About the same age, and the PSA level on me is crazy low too. But PSA is not the be-all and end-all; just means your chance is low, not zero.
As for milk, skim is better. But a litre is a lot. I just have a bit with breakfast cereal, the little bit that goes in the couple of cups of coffee per day I usually have, and then there's whatever's in the dessert I have for dinner, usually the source there being the creme brulee I indulge in when we go out to eat if the restaurant we go to offers that on the menu, and this only happens once a week anyway.
So I don't abstain entirely, but I don't down a litre a day either. Milk isn't the only source of dairy out there, after all, and you have to count everything.

Here's an odd one.
Back in the spring, I started to get a recurring rash on my face. At first I thought it was acne and treated it as such, but after the third time coming back I went to the dermatologist, who prescribed Protopic, which does work very well.
Around the same time, I started taking fish oil. The rash stopped, so I stopped taking Protopic.
As we had a stretch of bright sunny weather around here, I stopped with the fish oil for about a week straight just as this thread was starting up. The rash came back, mildly, but it was back. I started with the Protopic again, and then remembered the guy who said it cleared up his acne, and decided to start the fish oil every day without fail.
We'll see how that goes. I had never made the connection before, but it turns out fish oil is known to be effective against eczema, while its efficacy against acne is somewhat controversial from what I can see; some folks think it helps, others think it hurts. I'll report back here in a month or two on whether this rash ever comes back.

It's been a month and a day, and the result this time is matching what happened the last time, although I didn't know it was the fish oil helping out the last time: I got a small rash again a couple of weeks ago, treated it with the Protopic. It was actually very small, much smaller than the one that prompted the above post; if I hadn't been watching for it I probably wouldn't have noticed it.
It hasn't been back.
So, there you have it. Looks to me like fish oil works quite well against eczema. All I'm taking is one 1000mg pill a day. I wouldn't get too enthusiastic about this, by the way: I've read that megadoses will knock your Vitamin E for a loop. Everything in moderation.

as i said. taking a pill is not the same as getting your nutrients through a healthy diet:

Two Portions Of Oily Fish Per Week Could Reduce Stroke Risk (PICTURES)

Eating two portions of oily fish a week could help ward off a stroke, research suggests.

Scientists have found that eating two helpings of oily fish - such as salmon, trout or mackerel - every week could moderately reduce risk of a stroke.

However, fish oil supplements do not have the same beneficial effect as oily fish such as kippers, sardines, fresh tuna or whitebait, the study found.
