Hitler coined the term Sturmgewehr (which translates to "assault rifle") as the new name for the MP 43/44 (below).
There were many concept copies including the AK-47 and eventually one by Armalite in Amercia. Yes, the Sturmgewehr had a fully auto selector option. So guns lacking this are not Sturmgewehr. That said, several military created versions without fully auto. All depends on how you add up the characteristics.
The coincidence of the A in Armalite and Assault combined with them becoming the famous brand in America has been keeping parochial assholes up at night for decades.
Edit: of course 3 round burst came in after the MP 44* I think but even with an Armalite 15 you can achieve a bump burst easily (without a stock) with practice. It's mechanically perfectly capable of rapid fire once you have the knack.

Cops say he cranked off 80 rounds but only reloaded twice. There goes the 30 round mag for sure. I don't own them I like 10 round mags for prone shooting. I do my best shooting while trying to impersonate a pancake.
A psychologist friend talked with me today for awhile. He said that none of the proposed bans and controls will make any difference because it can all be traced back to Reagan defunding the mental institutions and defanging the commitment procedures. In SoCal we had Camarillo but its nearly impossible to commit someone now even with a truckload of attorneys.

When I did this I used to make my forearm tremor, not sure what Jerry does, maybe a 2 finger technique.
If you have a 30-round mag loaded before you start firing, then reloading twice gets you to 90 rounds.
If memory serves the back of the stock could flip up as a shoulder cradle (whatever term) for fully automatic fire?
