CPAC Organizers Dump Ann Coulter From This Yearâs Speaking List
On February 7-9, conservatives from around the country will gather in Washington, D.C. for the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). This year, one of the darlings of the far rightâs oft-distasteful and unpleasant punditry will not be invited:
Sheâs always been outrageous, but when conservative Ann Coulter talked of 9/11 ârag headsâ at the 2006 Conservative Political Action Conference and linked the slur âfaggotâ to Sen. John Edwards in a 2007 speech, CPACâs organizers decided to cut her from the list of speakers at the February 7-9 conference expected to draw 6,000.
At CPAC 2006, Coulter referred to Muslims as âraghead.â At CPAC 2007, she said she couldnât âreally talk aboutâ then-Democratic presidential candidate and former Sen. John Edwards because âyou have to go into rehab if you use the word âfaggot.ââ Watch it:
Coulter may not be a part of the formal CPAC program, but rest assured that the presence of this âgreat Americanâ will still be felt.
A few of Coulterâs supporters found a way for her to appear at the conference. Five of this yearâs CPAC sponsors â the Young Americaâs Foundation (YAF), Human Events, Townhall.com, Citizens United, and Clare Boothe Luce Policy Institute â have decided to hold a âQ & A sessionâ with Coulter that âis not part of the general sessions.â
YAF president Ron Robinson said âitâs unfortunate that Ann Coulter is not speaking at CPACâ because she is âa powerhouse for young peopleâ and âone major reason that CPAC is so successful.â
