you ever build houses. i have. the little builders get squeezed by the big builders. the little builder sees a way to remain competitive. hire cheap labor. competition is a powerful force.Quote from Haroki:
It's not that simple.
I'll give you a couple examples why:
Employers like homebuilders couldn't care less cuz the labor must be done here, and can't be outsourced. As long as there is an equal playing field for all players, they will just increase the same-to-same home prices to reflect increased labor costs. They will not pay more for labor. The home buyer will.
Agriculture needs it cuz they deal in commodities that can cross the border from areas with cheap labor. Now, some crops are hard to mechanize and so they definitely do. Those that can, would. And if some areas have to change from profitable, labor intensive crops to less profitable crops, there would need to be a change in land prices in order to make it feasible.
McDonalds? Why would they care? Again, any price increases will be past onto the consumer.
as far as farming there are very few fresh vegatables in your grocery store that can be mechanized, two reasons. some are too delicate and most produce in the field ripens in stages. you have to make several passes picking as it ripens because a machine cant tell if a strawberry is ripe or not.
