American companies are hereby ordered to immediately start looking for an alternative to China,

"Those same goods are manufactured in other countries."

Whichever countries manufacture those goods Trump will tariff those countries too.
So the only option is America manufacture them itself, which will cause America economy to collapse.

Trump is such an idiot - got to love it since he causes a lot of volatility. Never before in the modern markets has such a moron been at the helm as president, hell bent on resetting the U.S. back to 1952.

He sure loves his letter from Kim Jong Un, his idol.

Waiting on the 25% tariffs on ALL Chinese products. China dragging its foot hoping President Donald Trump loses! The US can wait but, 25% tariffs on ALL Chinese products need to be imposed now for maximum pain! Let the Chinese wait all they want after that! I will twiddle my thumb while, the Chinese economy implodes! Should be fun! Chinese economy would be destroyed by the time, they come to their senses to sign that fair trade deal! With or without a deal, the US wins! It is called leverage. The US spends $500 billion in Chinese goods each year. Those same goods are manufactured in other countries. What happens when Chinese goods become too expensive relative to other countries goods? Some dumb idiots will still buy Chinese goods. I will buy goods from other countries because it will help destroy the Chinese economy! So, China can sign that fair trade deal and they best do so, before 25% tariffs are imposed on ALL Chinese products or else, US will just impose the rest of the tariffs and call it a day!

Wow someone is angry. Take your buttplug out?

The point of the tariffs is pressure China to sign a fair trade deal not to move manufacturing back to the US. Labor is going to be cheaper from other countries.

This should have been done long ago. The supply chain is in place, maybe it's too late. Western corporations need to scale back china manufacturing or they'll hold us hostage manipulating our economy. Don't talk about it, just do it. They wouldn't even know what hit them.

*sighs* Did nobody read El Ocho's post? https://www.elitetrader.com/et/thre...ternative-to-china.335363/page-2#post-4914605

I've been banging on about this for a while. America loves cheep shit, and have been addicted to it. They WILL NOT YIELD to higher prices for their disposable plastic items.

For a couple of generations now America has gotten too used to the low low prices of big-box retailers, who have most of their crap made in China to maintain high profit margins.

Tariffs are not going to cause Americans to start buying American, because unless you just simply ban all Chinese imports outright, China will be able to offer us their cheep shit for prices that will be cheeper than stuff made in the USA. Unless it is a legacy item, like corn from your local farm.

This is nothing new. Remember back in the 90's Japan was the new emerging economy. Until we put a tariff on their cheap stuff, made them manufacture locally. We've been there. It won't happen "Overnight", there will be another source of cheap stuff. They'll have to sell their cheap stuff to themselves.
