All my liberal friends, suggestion

Quote from bigarrow:

Me and the dictionary and common sense disagree with you mr Phoenix. And your insult was noted.

Let it go, brother Big.

You see folks, liberals and conservatives can agree on some things.
Brother Big is a liberal, brother BSAM is a conservative.
We won on this one, brother Big.

Obamacare is here.
I despise the Obamacare law, but the general concept leans toward being correct; i.e. healthcare for everyone.

We need USA Care for all the citizens of this country.

Healthcare is a right; not a privilege.

Now we're just talking definitions here. Cost and scarcity isn't exclusive in the definition of a luxury. If that's the case then except for air everything could be classified as a luxury. This conversation reminds me of those with jem over figuring out how much one pays in taxes for another dollar earned. This is strictly a definition and has nothing to do with ideology just like the tax conversation is strictly math. Of course there can and are honest differences in definitions. I understand your logic I just disagree with defining health care as a luxury.

definitions are important, otherwise we can't discuss anything since we don't have a common language

Over your lifetime chances are you will cost more in healthcare than you pay for your autos, on the order of 100's of thousands for the average person. Things of that order in cost, such as home ownership and cars, are luxuries. I can provide the numbers if you like, but I doubt that is necessary to prove to you that most of the planet cannot afford the real cost of what we in the west commonly refer to as health care.

It has everything to do with ideology because if you form an ideology that isn't reconciled with reality than you are basically subscribing to just another religion. The idea that government can somehow magically give each and every one of us 100's of thousands of healthcare is a costly fantasy.

the ideology that a tonsilectomy or some other common 1 day procedure is worth 20k or a bottle of pills $200,is the elephant in the room

It is impossible to make a scarce commodity a right, your empty slogan is exactly what Lenin said and the results are always the same. It's such a tragedy that your religion is so common, I am all for seperateion of church and state.

and the ideology that says you in your infinite wisdom can dictate prices has failed a thousand times over

Noooo Captain don't go over to the dark side. It's dark over there.

Over where? The radical right is just as crazy, but they ain't controling the White House, the senate and the majority of the media.

an old saying that your house is worth what the bank will loan you ,or an item is worth what people will pay, without the lobbyists and dc spending the taxpayers loot , those prices would fade in a hurry ... ideologically, they should have one day a year where you can shoot the politician of your choice legally.they might think twice about going into the graft biz

what this discussion illustrates is that it is no longer possible to say that you are fiscal versus conservative on the important issues anymore.

ALL the left's social issues are about shifting money to their clients. So to even try and claim that one can be a fiscal conservative and social liberal is self contradictory. mrbill proves it, he wants spending cuts but votes democrat. Good luck with that one.
