First off, given the things that you have to do to be excommunicated from the mormon church, it isn't something that I personally would go around bragging about.

Second, the mormon church absolutely doesn't teach catholicism to be a cult that needs to be destroyed.

Third, they also don't claim that noone migrated over the land bridge from asia, just that at least a small group of people came from modern day Jerusalem. By the way, the other day a guy I work with (atheist) just got back from touring some Mayan ruins. He was going on and on about all these cool things he saw. His stories were so similar to details of the Book of Mormon that it almost sounded like he was describing the book to me.

Fourth, the idea that someone has to leave their family and be adopted into a mormon family is the most riduclous thing I've ever heard. This tells me that you either weren't ever a mormon yourself, or at least never attended meetings enough to find out what mormons believe. It's people like you who claim to be former members who start and spread all the ridiculous rumors about mormons in the first place.
 
On a seperate note, the reason mormons are so big on families is because they are one of the few, if not the only, christian church to believe in the idea of eternal families. IOW, under the proper cirumstances a husband and wife will remain so even after death. To devout mormons there is no "till death do you part" mentality associated with marriage.

You'll notice this with Mitt Romney. He and his wife started dating at 16 years old and got married at about 21-ish. Happily married ever since. I have to laugh when people bring up the mormon polygamy thing with him. As far as I know, he is one of the few (if not the only) candidate who hasn't been married more than once.

But yeah, you republican haters are probably right. It would be horrible to have a president who is a member of a church that:

-places great emphasis on strong families
-values education and considers the pursuit of knowledge a life long process
-teaches that "the worth of even one soul is great"
-teaches that financial debt is a plague on this generation
-is generally one of the first organizations to respond anywhere in the world to a disaster by supplying food, clothing, and medical supplies
-runs a welfare program that is widely considered the best in the world
-teaches its members to be industrious and to work for the betterment of the community
-teaches its members to be responsible stewards of this wonderful planet


And the list goes on and on....

Personally, after watching the democratic debate the other night, I would love to see Obama vs. Romney in 2008. Either would be ok with me. I don't claim any partisan affiliation but I would have to go with Romney on the grounds of his stance on late term abortion. Although Obama doesn't disagree with him when it comes right down to it. I like them both.
 
The problem with the Democrats is they simply do not have anyone that is perceived as a "leader"....

No one has actually had an executive job.....

All in the Senate.....preach, pontificate and pound on the podium for the TV cameras.....but actually made a decision????


Last Pres elected from Senate....Kennedy 50 years ago....


Rudy is the next Pres.....even against Gore....Gore is a little mentally unbalanced.....

Rudy's a good guy and a great mayor, but I think his supporters would be let down if he were to win. Their vision of what he is is greater than the reality.
 
I agree. After watching last night's Republican debate, I think Rudy is even more cheesy than I thought before.

However, I do think he will win. America just loves the guy. Americans tend to vote for people they like. That's where Hillary falls flat on her face. Half the country despises her.

As for the Debate, I think Romney cleaned up. I also believe he'd be an outstanding Prez. Won't happen.

I thought McCain did well also. Especially when he said he'd use Gov funding for stem cell research. Very un PC in that Party. That took some balls to flat out confirm his view.

I really don't care one way or another if you or anybody else wants to be a mormon. We all can believe in whichever fairy tails we chose. I only answered acronym's question as best as I could.

To your first point;

To be an upstanding mormon, one needs to be obedient to the uppercrest (elders and above) of the hierarchy within the governing body of the church. All I, or any baptized member has to do is publicly question the church doctrine and or cannon.
Once you do and are on their list, they'll send missionaries to your house multiple times a week for hours at a time to bring you back into the fold.
When that fails, the LDS will threaten you and your family with hell and damnation if you don't fly straight. At that point all that needs to be done is to laugh in the face of the stake bishop and say fuck you. Presto. You get excommunicated.

SouthAmerica: Here is a major piece of advice for Al Gore.

When Al Gore decides to enter the Democratic presidential race for 2008 I strongly recommend that Al Gore avoid the subject of “gun control” at all times.

And any time someone brings that subject up he should change the subject of conversation as fast as he can.

He should stay away of the subject of “Gun Control” his entire presidential campaign.

Let the Republicans say anything they want about Al Gore past position on this subject – just avoid this subject like you should avoid the plague.

Why even worry about Gore? Hillary is well on the way to getting the nod. She will also win the election as the first women to be pres in USA...............DEAL WITH IT!!!!!

The group of republicans running away from the sheriff and dreaming is a skit that "Saturday Night Live" could not even have dreamed up. Talk about a bunch of losers..... :D

SouthAmerica: Reply to version 77

Al Gore should avoid that subject like the plague, because he lost a lot of votes in 2000 in response to his position on “Gun Control”. And that issue might have been the difference in some states in which he lost by a very close margin.

Al Gore should not repeat the same mistake of 2000 and I hope he has learned his lesson regarding that subject.

He should prepare himself and get used to every time someone brings the subject of Gun Control up - he should answer them by changing the subject to something else such as the environment, healthcare or anything else other than gun control.

Any candidate should be in favor of gun control only if he wants to lose the presidential election.

By the way, Al gore is supposed to be the guest on Larry King on this coming Tuesday. He probably will be talking to Larry King about his new book.

Al Gore knows that when he enters the presidential race of 2008 he will be immediately the front-runner of his party.

He will be in the news all the time in the next 4 months and he will get a lot of mainstream media coverage even before he actually announces that he is a presidential candidate for 2008.
