Immigration was always the topic that I was discussing. I don't follow you at all about agent orange - what are you going on about? And I never once said Mexico is sending their worst.
It's been on the political radar since Reagan, and even before that. You may not have considered it important, but that's actually one of the reasons Trump won - so many have been thinking about it for a long time now.
Again, you're off on some other tangent - Of course safety is a big play here, won't argue that. Can't secure the country if you can't secure it's borders. Rather obvious, I would think.
Nah, it started before Trump no doubt, heck it probably grew up to the point when Obama tried to shut them down, and they started buying off politicians lobbying hard during his admin. Obama was no saint to immigrants and my best guess is he was trying to pander to the right by being tough at the border so they'd compromise on reform, but it was too late to realize they never really cared to give him a win, at that point Obama did a 180 and eased enforcement substantially.
It's no secret these guys have been dumping millions to the likes of Kobach, and their strategy is simple, come down hard on conviction rate and length of sentencing, since we've gotta foot the bill. That's why catch and release was scrapped, and that's why the minimum time served was increased w/this zero tolerance BS. For the latest, see how they've pushed on weed enforcement.
As for the opinion piece you posted, this was a little different....there were a ton of unaccompanied minors in this instance, and they had to put them somewhere. At least Obama's DHS was willing to release them to family as they awaited a court decision....Trump on the other hand, has been locking up those that go pick up the kids.
