Michael Moore in his movie praises the Cuban Health Care System
but it is great for some priviledged ones but not for most. I have lots of family in Cuba and they are regular folks. When they go to the hospital they have to take soap, towels, sheets as none of these items are provided. Now most of the medications have to be paid for by people and some like Omeprazole for ulcers have to be bought in dollars only. We are always sending medications to Cuba when the family needs them. The Cuban health care system before the Revolution was outstanding and we had incredible doctors in all fields of medicine, many would come to the US , do a residency and go back to Cuba and practice. I have a friend who was a doctor in Cuba recently and told me that if you do an EKG on someone who you feel needs it but does not meet the government's criteria for an EKG you get punished. So you do the EKG and then tear it up. Now , that is some system.
There was a video which was smuggled out of Cuba shortly after the Michael Moore movie about the Cuban Health Care system. The video shows the inside of a common small town hospital, broken windows, roaches, unflushable tolilets, flies all over patients , patients on no sheets;you would not take your dogs to this hospital, and I hear that is not an uncommon condition in many hospitals.
