there were many reasons for iraq. although WMD/compliance with the agreement saddam made at the end of the first war was one reason, our country did make the case that saddam's regime tortures people before we went to war. these were all factors.Quote from ElCubano:
I would agree with Gekko if in fact that was our mission; but it was not. Gordon our mission ( and i know what you are saying believe me I do ) was to get rid of terrorism, not free the Iraqi people. Why not free the Cuban people?? There has been human rights violation there far longer than in most places...... But believe you me, I am glad that we may be giving the Iraqis a fighting chance at democracy; but again it was not our mission..
america can't go around freeing all people around the world at once. maybe if the rest of the world was alright and cuba was the only country left with problems, we'd help the cuban people more. if the usa government felt cuba was also a threat to usa + their human rights violations, maybe they'd be more of a priority than iraq right now...who knows.
i'm sure our government asseses problems around the world and has to make difficult choices. also, some governments are more co-operative than others. if saddam wouldn't budge through democratic measures, maybe war is necessary. not all countries we have problems with need to be bombed.
