a theory about good vs. bad traders

I had to listen to a 64 year old Terry Brad talk about all his amazing scores. He did not once mention his failures at a pep rally I went to. Was he a bad Q? He seethed arrogance and hubris!
I've never followed pro football really, but it's funny you say that because anytime I have ever seen him on TV, there's just something there that... I dunno... I've probably only seen him say something maybe a 1/2 dozen times over the years, but yeah, something about him has always rubbed me the wrong way.

Agreed - the louder they are in trying to convince others how good/rich/successful they are, the more likely they are to be the opposite.

“During the 10 years I traded for George Soros, I never heard him speak about a winning trade. To hear him talk, you’d think he had nothing but losers. Conversely, listening to the biggest losers, you’d think they had nothing but winners.” Victor Niederhoffer
I seriously hope you don't take anything I post in Stoney's thread seriously. In all honesty, that's why I love to post in it so much... to shut him up and let him know he's far from being who he purports himself to be. Somebody's gotta do it.

Good traders make ONLY good trades. And what's that? They are trades which meet THEIR criteria for "favorable enough" probability of win and r/r... and trade with stops.

Bradshaw is a goofball and lots of folks find him annoying but dont diminish his skill as a QB.Those Steelers teams of the late 70's didn't win 2 Super Bowls with smoke and mirrors, they were absolutely loaded with All-Stars on both offense and defense. Bradshaw,Swan,Harris,Blieir,Blount,Green,Lambert,et al. As a Cowboys fan I hated the Steelers because they were so good.

OJ was pretty good too.

sure, everyone has a "system," even those playing negative edge slot machines

if anything, the past couple years showed just how unsophisticated some of the "sophisticated" players actually were

not a complete surprise for anyone who's had interactions with them and saw through the bs - not going to name names here but it's all over the news

my current theory on a quick way to tell the good vs. bad traders is that there's probably a positive correlation between level of pretentiousness and bad trading

it's strange how the universe brings you the answers when you were not expecting it
i remember coming away from my interactions with those-who-will-not-be-named feeling queasy, but it was hard to put a finger on it (or perhaps, it was hard to call out the bs without actual proof of their losses, as have now been made public)

in retrospect, maybe because they had to engage in that level of pretention because they were losers, and needed to manage their "street cred" even more fastidiously

lol, from now on i feel like i can see through them right away, and not feel guilty going against my best instincts doing so
I don't think attitude is correlated with trading success.

I've known a*hole guys who were successful in trading.
Pretentious guys bragging all the time about their wins and showing no respect for anything.

I know nice guy who can't make any money out of it.
Very humble guys who work very hard and try to learn from their mistakes.

The same can apply to many different activity.

Bottom line, it's not just about attitude and behavior, good or bad. Otherwise, trading would be easy.

QBs need be surrounded by talent. Last Broncos SB win had Manning (when he could still complete a pass) and 5 quality recievers.... defense couldn't cover them all at once. Brady and Patriots same in their dominant period.

I believe excellent trading success can grow an awful attitude. When I use to manually trade, I was an complete asshole, screaming at screens, employees or brokers on floor to get me better prices or I wanted to take last nickel of newbies. After trading, no one ever saw me as aggressive, more of quiet egghead
LOL.
