A message to some day traders.

If you encompass all knowledge, then you can see, understand, predict everything with 100% precision. To us, it is incomplete knowledge. It is random, to us.

The more you zoom out and add more time, the more signal you get.

Apple daily chart tells me nothing. 99% noise.

Apple yearly chart tells me something. 50% noise, 50% signal.

Still, you cannot predict future from past where it matters, the tails. This is because of the problem of induction.

You can observe 1,000 white swans but it doesn’t confirm that a black swan doesn’t exist.
you do not need to identify noise or what is not noise.....

because of randomness markets will move in your favor at some times.taht is more rthan enough.

Padu, stop strawmanning me.

Let me assist you, first tell me what is it you think that im saying?
i am saying traders make money BECAUSE MARKETS ARE RANDOM

Naeem say you cannot make money because markets are random AND WHY IS HE QUALIFIED TO MAKE THAT STATEMENT.

Soros has his financial statement to prove that it is possible

Survive long enough and you’ll see it in your favor. Finally something sensible.
that is exactly what trading is about

no one said trading is sensible..... it is not that is why intelligent persons fail

it need not be.......

NASSIM NEVER SAID THAT. STOP STRAWMANNING! YOU DO IT TO ME AND NASSIM.

NASSIM LEARNED LESSONS FROM SOROS HIMSELF!

NASSIM AND SOROS BOTH KNOW THAT THEY DO NOT KNOW.

THIS THREAD IS AN ATTACK AT THOSE THAT BELIEVE THEY KNOW THAT THEY KNOW.

Importance of Social Sciences

The social sciences can provide insight into all types of social situations such as raising children, romantic relationships, family relationships, friendships, work place relationships, interactions with strangers, cultural differences, and so on.

Studying these situations and complex scenarios that arise in each situation really aids those in various professions that dedicate their lives to helping people improve and understand their behavior or psychological processes.

Social Sciences are all about an objective study (science) of people and their interactions. How could this not be important? If we want to improve our lives, choices, groups, institutions and societies we need to understand how they work, why they exist and how they have functioned in the past. I think the most effective study of social science is when they are studied together to answer the big questions we have about ourselves and human life on the planet.

The term social science is a catch all for so many subjects it is sort of like asking "why should we study life"? Learning about our own identity, history, culture, and how we relate to other humans on this planet is essential to living as one. Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, all of these are essentially the study of what it means to be human.

Social science covers a wide spectrum of subjects, including economics, political science, sociology, history, archaeology, anthropology, and law. In comparison to STEM sciences, social science is able to provide insight into how science and innovation work – in effect it is the science of science. In particular, social scientists are equipped with the analytical and communication skills that are important throughout many industries and organizations.

Other examples of the uses of social science abound. The United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence uses social scientists at thinktanks and universities in order to better understand the world and be better able to handle the defence and security challenges it faces every day.

In another interesting example, the UK’s Home Office has brought together engineers, criminologists, and auto manufacturers in order to figure out how to build cars that are more difficult to steal. The insight that criminologists can provide into the reasons why people steal, as well as their methods, is of particular importance to this project.

Another important program that has helped raise the profile of the social sciences is The Future of the UK and Scotland, which, according to its website, “works to illustrate not just the value but the diversity of the social sciences – including resources on immigration policy, higher education, welfare, defence and security, business, currency and the constitution”.

Social science can open up debate and give us a say in shaping our collective future. The social sciences developed as a field of study during the nineteenth century. Social science helped people understand the consequences and application of the new technologies of the age, such as steam power.

The growth of railways and factories not only transformed the economy and the world of work, but also changed forever the way people organised their family lives and leisure. Today nanotechnology and advances in medical research will have a significant impact on the way we live.

They present us with a bewildering range of ethical, legal and social issues. But it isn’t enough to rely on the scientists. We also need social scientists to analyse and critique what’s going on. That way we will make informed choices that shape the future.

From sports sociologists to public health experts, from those interpreting medical statistics to those evaluating policies for our care in old age, social scientists are working hard to make sure that our health, leisure and social care services work to best effect.

Social geographers at the University of Sheffield, for example, have shown that those of us who don’t follow eating advice are not simply weak‐willed or ignorant. Our eating habits are influenced by a whole range of circumstances. Some apparently unhealthy choices may seem rational: if the person doing the shopping knows that others will simply not eat the healthy option and it will just go to waste, they may simply not buy it.

So it’s no good just giving people a booklet on healthy eating. Effective nutritional advice needs to be tailored to people’s everyday lives and contexts.

Why do sociologists study religion? For centuries, humankind has sought to understand and explain the “meaning of life.” Many philosophers believe this contemplation and the desire to understand our place in the universe are what differentiate humankind from other species. Religion, in one form or another, has been found in all human societies since human societies first appeared.

Archaeological digs have revealed ancient ritual objects, ceremonial burial sites, and other religious artifacts. Much social conflict and even wars have resulted from religious disputes. To understand a culture, sociologists must study its religion.

Kindly, humans got to where we are today without any of this. And if we get rid of it tomorrow, we will continue evolving the way we have in the past, through experience with reality & tinkering/trial & error.

This is another discussion. The original point was to not apply the scientific method to the social realm. Academics won't have anything to do and be out of a job though....sooo yea.

Trump's successful election shat on social scientists(of the political kind).

Social science is largely bullsh*t.

...

3) Social science understands just about nothing. Waste of a field. If social science disappears tomorrow, world will be the same with major effect. Waste.

No biggie...we just disagree. Carry on.
