A distraction at key moments... any counters?

It was quite strange when the first one appeared on my screen.

I will have to shut down that messenging option if I can find where it is!

Thanks...

Dustin, I second the recommendation to use AdAware from Lavasoft to remove spyware/trojans. Try it -- you may be surprised what you have on your system.

The messages MainFramer is describing is not to be confused with MSN Messenger. This messenger is a seemingly inoccuous text popup dialog box. You can send a message to yourself to see what it looks like by typing:

net send <your computer name> hi!

You can find your computer name by right-clicking the My Computer icon, click properties, and click the network identification tab.

To disable the popup dialog:

Under Control Panel, select Administrative Tools.
Select Services.
Double-click on Messenger.
In the Messenger Properties window, select Stop, then choose Disable as the Startup Type.
Click OK.

You can read more about this windows feature in the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - Q148991.
