_Why do we even need the insurance companies?

It stirs a memory of a question a fiercly liberal girl once asked me. (the wife of a long ago friend, lord have mercy on his soul). "I don't understand interests rates. Why do they charge money to borrow money! It makes no sense!".
She asked in a somewhat incredulous tone.
She became assistant district attorney of Atlanta, (no idea how far she climbed), virtually No common sense. Stupid, some might say.

Yes I have healthcare and it's through an HMO paid for in the traditional employee/employer contribution, which in effect means the employee pays for it all.
Neither I nor my wife have had any issues, though admittedly we are both in good heath and rarely have the need for health care at all, let alone serious issues.
Do HMO's have their problems? Certainly! Is there corruption, waste and incompetence? Certainly! You'll have those things in any large organization. I think the point you and others are trying to make is that the government will have less of those things, which is ludicrous.
Let's take some examples of government run organizations, some of which I've seen touted as success stories.
VA Hospitals...actually an apples and oranges comparison just on size alone, but none the less a government run heath care system.
The VA, while having made improvements over the years still provides sub standard care. I personally know two vets, now dead, that would more than likely still be alive had they been treated at private facilities. I, as a Vet, could use the VA for free. I'll pay the insurance premiums and go private. Nuff said.
Medicare...A system filled with waste, corruption and incompetence at a jaw dropping level. It'll be broke in less than 10 years. Nuff said.
Social Security...Incompetent and criminal. Let's just forgot the fact that one could put money in a f'n Money Market account and do better. Let's forget the whole thing was a scam from the start as people were never suppose to live long enough to collect. Let's just forget those facts and focus on the criminal activity. They, the government, collects this tax from us without our consent, then takes that money which is promised for retirements benefits and uses it to fund other government projects. They do so knowing full well that they do not have the means to pay the money back. That's fraud and theft, both of which are criminal.
You give me a choice between and insurance company plan and a government run plan? I choose the insurance company. I make this statement believing that insurance executives are corrupt to the core and not worth the price of a bullet it would take to get rid of them. It's just that politicians are worse.
And while I'm on this rant let's address this whole, the people are the government thing. BULLSHIT! Can we quit with the 19th century politics. This government is not a representation of it's people and has not been for centuries. But we can vote, right? You wanna' know what your vote means? It means that we as a nation are still naive enough to believe there's a difference, that's what. We have a choice? Really? What choice do we have. We can get fucked by a Dem and they'll kiss us and whisper sweet nothings in our ear while doing it. Or, we can get fucked by a Repub while they play the Star Spangled Banner and show us John Wayne movies. Fucked is fucked, and that's what we are. No viable third party means no choice, period!
Until we have term limits and take the money out of it we'll continue to get what we have. Good luck with that!
Just like i figured, somebody else pays and covers your health.Like all the t bags who scream about socialism and how bad the govt is and how they dont want the govt touching their excellent medicare(govt run).
Look ,as a vet you couldnt get health care insurance on your own...so make sure youre not off shored or downsized...You would be deemed as having multiple pre existing conditions...God,if hmo's consider pregnancy as a pre existing condition,imagine a soldiers potential risk.
BTW,elections are term limits.

Theoretically elections could be the equivalent of term limits, but in the real world it rarely works that way.
Incumbents usually have more campaign funds and better name recognition. In a perfect world with intelligent voters that wouldn't be enough, but then of course we don't live in a perfect world.
IF elections did "limit" terms (as it should and could) how is it that the same crooked incompetent buffoons, who are literally destroying our country, manage to stay in power decade after decade?

Doesnt matter much if the politician is dem or repub,the policy is set by the lobbyists who buy and influence policy.Lobbyists have the agenda and the money to flood the politician.Politician cant be re elected without funds.Look at max baucus.He is supposed to be representing the Democrat healthcare reform bill yet he received 4 million from the hmos's???Conflict of interest-ya think?Talk about the fox guarding the chickens.Its disgusting.
We need election finance reform.Many countries have limits and even govt paid for elections or whatnot-each party is alloted x dollars and thats it-or something like that.

If these Commie Democrats want to just stand up and represent Americans they can pass laws that give Insurance companies a time limit on cancelling a policy, do something to destroy the sugar purveyors and force the food industry to be accountable for nutrient levels...
Investigations take hours nowadays, they can find out what they need to know in great detail in a matter of weeks, give them three months to cancel and after that they have to pay if the insured gets sick. If they find fraud in the application, let them keep the payments... it would pay for their investigations.. set up free arbitrations paid for by public funds for disputes regarding what questions are asked and what answers are given. It will free up courts a lot...
Make everybody get insurance. Make it available with high deductible and a cap on the total payout to keep the premiums down. Make the penalty for not buying it the same as the premiums so it's pure stupid not to buy it... provide a lot of healthy living info along with the insurance. We as a culture should be in the business of destroying the sector of the food products that ruin people's health..
There still would be homeless people and people in prisons and whatnot, give them a government run free system... and cut the frills, if somebody wants a sex change, let them pay for it...
Then, force the whole culture to not eat sugar and chemicals, take a multivitamin and practice prevention... I really hate to pay for some fat f$%k that eats candy and drinks sodas then gets on the disability when they get diabetes and need a heart transplant.. forget that.. I've done prevention for my own good for decades. I'm 65, bp was 105/65 with a rate of 65 beats per minute just a couple of weeks ago at my last doctor visit.. I need no medications at all.
