Either life HERE ON EARTH has value and god is not benevolent because
he stands idly by and lets innocent babies die,
or it doesnt have enough value to worry about innocent babies
being killed, since there is an afterlife, and therefore we cant hold god accountable.

You NOW know the remarkable thing about JESUS CHRIST....He was wrongly put to death yet it was a death he freely accepted....what you said above is correct but only a precious few have been divine enough to be this way....Joan of Ark also comes to mind....But Jesus could have run, he could have denounced who he was. he could have avoided the scribes and pharisees...Pilot asked him over and over to save himself.....he knew the rewards and lived his life as an example for us.
