As for CL's loss of volatility, it reminds of tech stocks after the dot com crash in 2000. High tech stocks like YHOO, AMZN, EBAY, etc , that were swinging 5-10 dollars a day, had crashed to 20s price range and went into a .25-.50 choppy movement and never went back to normal high volatility. To trade volatility we need to trade things are in a bubble.

In about 48 hours CL has dropped from 41.8 at one point to a low of 33.5. A fall of 20% in two days.

Its probably still the most volatile commodity out there.

The daily hi-low ranges in the last week have average between 300 and 500 ticks a day, that is still great volatility compared to the DOW, ES and most currencies.

Yeah that's true, but these extreme spikes are random and very difficult to trade.

Maybe I misused the word volatility, because what I really meant was that we are not getting those nice $3-$5 swings that we used to get in oil. For two weeks we were glued to the $41 level and there were those random $2 spikes that would come out of nowhere and would evaporate quickly.

I find this environment difficult to trade, because these movements don't generate a meaningful S/R pattern on my charts, which is my only indicator.

The chart on this wider timeframe doenst show the extent it dipped, but 33.52 was the low.

Oh come onnn spandex89, trying to claim credit for a level you drew on a chart is one thing but that chart you posted had almost no room left for any more trendlines! Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
