As noted, their code got stolen, it took time for other companies to develop counter measures.

You again can't have it both ways, they either have made money from spreads and HFT, or they lost money from spreads and HFT.

So we look at why are they losing money now, and we see that their code got stolen, and it was stolen by a programmer not a prop day trader.

As far as know Quants are not being hired to sit in front of a screen and trade, they are being hire to develop black box strategies.

I don't compete against these type of people. All of my trades today were winners, and I don't have to be a Quant to win.

without being coy, is this site in reference to your proclamation that all your trades today were winners....?

http://www.reuters.com/article/2010...E61A5P120100212

if not, would you mind just show us the screen shot of whatever trades you made in reference to your claim.

not that i doubt you or anything but just that most fellow traders would like to see something on screen, rather than whole bunch of verbiage, K?

thx, and only if you have time.

merry christmas and happy new year everyone.

Weekly Update for week 49/50 ended 12/17/2011

A good week, up 8K (4.7%). Good rate of opportunities. made nearly 10K from 10 discretionary trades, with loss of 2K in automated.

The emphasis going forward is turning out a good profit factor on my discretionary trades. It has been hugely disappointing even in my good years like 2008 or 2009, because of taking too many trades. In 2008 with an averall gain of over 400%, the PF was 1.2 (gainers of about 2.4million vs losers of about 2.0million). In 2009 the PF was 1.05, even though the overall return was more than 50%. Of course the PF for 2010/2011 are less than 1. It means I have been taking too many trades. The quality of my ability should be reflected from my carefully picked/planned discretionary trades: this will be a big measurement point for me going forward. Anything less than 1.20 will a cause for concern, as I believe my carefully made decisions on trades should produce a better return. Will continue with limiting discretionary trades to one a day during core trading hours (940-1530hrs). The rest of the entries are made up by after-hour and early trades (before 940am) which always seem to be better planned for me.

Code:
Opening Balance: 171,501
Net gain for the week 8,122
-------------------------------------------------
Net Balance: 179,623

Since Inception of Thread 01/8/2011 - 12/17/2011

Opening Balance: 335,899
Net loss (Less Margin Interest) 151,276) (Down 45%)
Cash Withdrawal (5,000)
------------------------------------------------
Net Balance 179,623

Neke, have been following you for sometime. Your decision to put more emphasis on PF going forward is a very welcome development. I think it doesn't matter if you are positive or negative for a week, what really matters is the analysis you are doing on your trading performance and the metrics you are using to measure your trading performance.

So, I will say good work this week on your PL, however many more kudos for deciding to focus your trading towards achieving a higher profit factor.

Edit: Curious, what was your PF for years before 2008?

Hi, nice to see a few positive weeks starting to come in. It would be interesting to see a comparison of PnL per unit time for your discretionary and your automated trades separately... it always sounds like the automated trades are a downer

Funny, considering your profit factors are always below 1. But since you trade with paper money, I guess you're not trading "in reality" ;)

d08

funny money, you said? traded in sim, you eluded?....

better read neke's trading journal again, so you might be able to surmize the condition correctly.

on the other hand, i might have concluded neke's acct incorrectly as well.

most probably, i assume that he is trading in u.s. dollars--real u.s. dollars and not sim as you might have concluded correctly or incorrectly. cheers, d08

Here is the NT report for Thur and Fir. I did not follow plan, I should have either traded more contracts and/or held longer, but both were winning days.

My reply was clearly meant for his Highness, Mr. Beau "Greatest System Trader Ever" Wolinsky.

congrats, they were winners sure enough, both days as well.

but what did you trade? if you have time, perhaps, you could give us a screen shot, only if you deem desirable, K? thx and merry christmas to you and yours.

Sorry, at this point I have redeveloped my indicators and trade setups, so I am not going to give screen shots out since this cost too much time and money on my part. In the future, if some few traders wish to sign contracts for mentoring, then I may give them the indicators and setups or if a hedge fund wants a futures trader.

I can see how much easier it is for some hedge companies to trade when they are able to use other people's money there is less stress and fear. Really, I should be making much more money on these setups.
