I don't understand your invention - all of the thumb drives I have do not require a cord, some include a 6 inch USB extension cord to make it easier to access USB ports but they aren't required to use it.
When I use a USB drive I plug it directly into the PC and it sticks out, just as you describe. What am I missing?
Small, but nice features... (1) easier access to the USB port for some [fat] models, (2) perhaps possible to damage the drive when inserting or removing if the force is a bit off of perpendicular.. the cable would be able to flex without damage, and (3) ability to turn the drive so as not to see the light on the USB drive, if desired. Some drives have a small light, others annoyingly large.
The only ones I've seen with permanent cable attachments are the mini-hard drive ones. The Corsair has a separate cord of about 2 1/2 feet which is useful for mounting in the back USB panel while being able to access from the front*. A fair number of flash drives include such a cable. Maybe you can check for drives which do at BB, CC, or CompUSA. You can also separately purchase such cables from 6-30", though perhaps not cost effective .
*FWIW... not all USB ports are equal. The most robust one is on the back panel of the computer. Next, front panel. After that, peripheral ones like a hub or on an LCD monitor. I've seen some flash drives which will work properly ONLY when when mounted on the back panel. I've also seen where the drive would not work properly when an extension cable was used! Fortunately, these are not the norm.

Sorry, I never bought one before but thought they all had cords. My original quoted link has a picture of one with a cord (second large picture on that page).

Oh Ok, I understand now. You do realize thought that you don't need to use that cord in that picture (Corsair Voyager GT 8GB), its just a convienence, not a requirement.
I use a drive that looks just like that (slightly bulging with a rubberized body) and it fits in just fine straight in, no cord required.
Some flash drives are slim. Others fat. Sometimes you can't mount 2 of them side-by-side because of the width of the drives. Extension cord mounts take care of that issue.
Some mobo's now have no PS/2, serial nor parallel ports... just USB.
By the time you mount keyboard, mouse and printer + 2-3 flash drives, the width of drives and USB port spacing can become an issue.
