10000rpm hard drive?

FWIW... the new Corsair Voyager GT flash drive should destroy the rest of the market.

Many flash drives are so painfully slow, it makes me want to rip them out and smash with a hammer. With the GT, I can't see the sense of buying any other* flash drive unless it's really, really cheap... AND you don't mind the slow speed. (I recently bought 2, 1GB SimpleTech Bonsai flash drives for $48 with $48 rebate... my kind of deal!! However, they are very, VERY slow... so slow that I've given them away. There are lots of slow ones like this on the market... )

* Drives I like are Lexar Lightning, Lexar Sport (formatted in NTFS) and SanDisk Cruzer Titanium.

I do not think you understood my previous post. Basically, noody needs a Ferrari when a regular delivery van will suffice. Did you get that????? Most retail traders do not need the latest greatest PC to trade, period. Trading is a business and if one only needs a machine that cost 1K, spending 5 times as much is bad business. Case closed.

Btw. I like how you brought up my paper trading into discussion, classy move. Only a true gentleman would try succumb to this kind of punches below the belt approach. Well done.

On a lighter note, do you think my machine is going to perform better if I connect my refrigerator to my computer's cooling system????? After all, I want the baddest PC there is and i do have a fairly expensive refrigerator. So, should I go all th way and do it????

Mind you water cooling with a pump and a radiator cost about $200 USD for a single loop.

I have a friend of mine that has a more powerful processor and better RAM than I do but his HD is 7200 rpm and my one is 10000 rpm. My computer boots faster than his, windows installed much quicker and many programs load faster. His computer was also about $1000 more expensive than mine so the $100 extra for the 10k rpm paid off. I would go for the 10k rpm.

I have had the Raptor ever since it came out.
It was a fun upgrade, but I would not recommend it because the performance gains are negligible and who wants to go thru having to reformat a hard-drive . . . not a lot of fun.

More importantly, if your trading software runs real "thin" and does not require any read/write activity then the Raptor is a total waste of time and money.

Most trading platforms do not necessitate a lot of hard-drive activity, especially if you are running an SSL-VPN client set-up for remote traders.

The Raptor isn't necessary for trading.
Period.

If I was just trading normally reading off of charts and such, I don't think it would make much of a difference. However, I heavily rely on custom software and trading systems to aid in my trading if not trade for me. A faster HD hastens the development process significantly. In short, yes, it does help me to be a far better trader but that is only because of my style of trading. I should have stated that before as to avoid any confusion.
