1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

thanks. no longer on godaddy.

what a weird, weird world...

The site's still a mess, and I'm waiting on mysterious backend people to get the bottom of it all. Later this week, I'll roll up my sleeves again and get back to it.

I had an extensive deconstruction/fact-check/error-analysis of the hilarious robin hood tax site, which is now completely GONE. will reconstruct and repost on bulletproof server configuration as soon as I can...

In the meantime, I need to go make the rent money...

I'm using Intuit Websites for http://www.tradersadvocacy.org/ and think they have good hacking protections. Plus, good online backups too. Nice work Tortoise. I agree with others on comments. Think a more professional photo is better to use.

If I might suggest, once you have rebuilt the site, you should maintain a copy of the entire directory structure / files on your computer.

I used to use Filezilla, a free ftp program to do this. It's been a few years and I'm a bit rusty on all this but if I recall the backend software also allowed full backups, and I did both just to be safe.

When you get to the point where there are dozens of pages, it is just too much work to lose for whatever reason.

As it happens, I was using Intuit. I liked it at first: No muss, no fuss. But, after this weekend's experience, my impression is that their backend is made of chewing gum and bailing wire.

Thanks for the resource. I'm a big believer in backups, and that was going to be my next step.:(

Ok, I've finally got the intended home page up as the home page at http://www.financialtransactiontaxes.com. Please check it out and let me know your thoughts.

I gather most (or all) of the Americans don't like "The Girl" (it seems to play well in the Commonwealth nations, fyi) and, frankly, I'm getting a bit tired of her because there's really no where for me to take the gag, and I don't want her taking over the site.

So...chalk the image up to my pathetic attempt at breaking this dialogue out of the trader-centric orbit and into something a bit more vox-populi-ish, something closer to the field where this battle will eventually be fought. In any event, sorry if I've embarrassed or offended anyone with it. For now, a smaller version of the image remains until I can find something else that works; she'll probably be gone, altogether, by the weekend.

In the meantime, I'll begin the laborious process of recreating what was lost. I'll try to do a page a night, starting tomorrow.

The email at info@financialtransactiontaxes.com is working again, so feel free to drop me a line about, well, anything.

As always, I'm eager and grateful for everyone's input. Without it, this exercise would be beyond futile. Many thanks for your words of encouragement...

Tracking the traffic rank might be a useful motivational tool...

But unlike the Robin Hoodies (or Bill Gates?) we don't need to resort to dirty tricks such as DOS attacks, we just need to convey the facts of a tax that will hurt the 99%.
